I recently found a few pounds of 7828ssc and was wondering if anyone here has had success in the 6.5 PRC? Ideally, I'd have some H1000, RL26, Retumbo, etc, but I haven't seen any of those powders in months.
Any help with this would be appreciated. Ivel got a 24 inch barrel, 1-8 twist, brass, fed 210 primers, and a great supply of 143 grain ELDX.

I initially gave 7828SSC a try in my 6.5 PRC when I was looking into various powders. Worked great just ended up settling on H4831SC behind 140s (ELDMs).
At 55 grains behind 140s I was seeing around 2950 fps in a 24" barrel. My GAP rifle has a short throat so COAL was around 2.86" if I recall correctly. Hornady brass and CCI200s.

I've got two pounds of H4831sc, but I have that earmarked for the 280 Remington that I'm currently building. I saw a pound for sale the other day for $90. I'll wait. Lol Good to hear the 7828ssc worked for you. I'm looking forward to giving it a try. My shell holder should be here tomorrow.

Hornady #11 shows the following maximum loads for 7828:
55.1 gr 7828 (regular cut) for 140 - 143 bulllets v = 3,050 fps (26" test bbl) 54.3 gr 7828 SSC for 140 GMX v = 2,950 fps
RL-25 & 26 were the speed demons in the PRC - no real surprise.

I bought one pound of Imr-7828ssc to try in my 280 mountain rifle and was so impressed with this powder that i returned to the GS and bought another. It's best for 150 thru 175gr 7mm bullets in the 280 rem. Anything lighter and im still awe struck with Superformance

Then I tried 54 grains of 4831sc and a 160 game king. Oh man! My groups went dime sized real fast.

Saw that. Going to start at 53.5 and go up. My problem right now is the temperature! Pretty hot here in coastal Virginia right now. Takes about 30 minutes for three shots! Lol

One round went over the chrono at a slower than expected rate so I pulled the bullets and loaded up something else

Lot to lot consistency, or lack thereof is probably just enough to keep everyone guessing which powders work best.

Looks like 54 grains of 7828ssc, with a Fed 215m primer is the ticket. I started getting pressure signs at 54.5, so I backed off to 54. I'm getting about 5/8-3/4 inch groups at 100 yds.
Now to Chrono and get the dope figured out. It will be interesting to see how this load changes when it's 40-50 degrees cooler! Hopefully, not much.

I'm doing load development now for a 24" prc. I started with H1000 and now RL25 (because I don't have RL26) and the RL25 is showing much better speeds than H1000. If it doesn't work out for accuracy 7828ssc is my next move. I shoot it in a couple others and have a decent supply of it.

I'm in the same boat as everyone else....a New Custom rifle in 6.5 PRC and no RL26 or H1000 powder to be had. However, I do have 12# of 7828ssc that I was fortunate enough to grab.....starting load work-up and barrel break in with it. I do have some H4831sc as well......i use it for my .270 WSM so may rob Peter to pay Paul if it works out better! LOL

Frog, I'm interested to see how you're goes as well. I was flattening primers at 54.5 and a 143 ELDX. And, my rifle likes the Fed 215m primer better than the standard 210.

Longshot, my notes indicate that I may have found an accuracy node around 53.0 gr of 7828ssc...... So, I have loaded more test rounds with 54.0 and small increase to find max, and also loaded several rounds around the 53.0 gr on either side to narrow thiings down.
Best groups with the first range day was 53.0 and 53.5 all 6 shots going into .485" at 100 yards. 54.0 gr opened up to .851"
I loaded some 4831sc as well....but can't get out to shoot until I get over this Corona Virus that's whipping my azz.....
