https://cnevpost.com/2021/07/28/gac...-charging-speed-comparable-to-refueling/

GAC is a Chinese car manufacturer claiming to have scaled a graphemes battery system iwhich will be used in their “Tesla killer” SUV to be launched this Fall, with a range over 600 miles. “Experts” are skeptical, and suggest graphene batteries are several years away.

“ GAC Aion, the new energy vehicle brand of GAC, showcased its super-fast charging technology in two versions, 3C and 6C, at its Technology Day event on July 27, claiming a charging speed comparable to refueling.

The company's 3C high-rate fast charging technology enables vehicles to be charged from 0 to 80 percent in 16 minutes, with a charging time of 10 minutes for 30 percent to 80 percent charge.

Its 6C high-rate fast charging is even faster, achieving a charging time of 8 minutes for 0-80 percent charge and 5 minutes for 30-80 percent charge.

In the demonstration of its charging technology, the charging pile showed that the charging power of the battery at 80 percent charge still reached 481kW. When the charging voltage reached 855.6V, the charging current reached 562.8A, and the vehicle had been charged to 35.1kWh in 4 minutes.

As to whether the high charging power will affect the battery life, the company said that if the vehicle is used year-round at room temperature with 6C fast charging, the battery life can reach 1 million kilometers.

The company said it will lay out more than 100 super-fast charging stations in 2021.

GAC Aion will be the first to equip the technology on the Aion V model in September this year, launching models with charging multipliers of 3C and 500km range and 6C and 500km range respectively.

GAC announced at last year's Guangzhou International Auto Show that the GAC Aion brand had become independent in order to create a high-end intelligent electric vehicle. The brand's 2020 sales reached 60,033 units, up 43 percent year-over-year.”

Biggest market in the world, and a 43% year over year growth last year.

Is the US going to industrial spy them I wonder?

Wonder why just 0 to 80 %,why not full charge.

Maybe to just sound faster.

It has to do with battery longevity. Pushing the battery from 80 to 100% quickly is hard on the batteries. Battery management systems typically charge at full power between 30 and 80%, but trickle in the first and last bits to prevent battery degradation.

That's the same with RV batteries. You want to slow charge the last 10 to 20%. Most newer RV's come with a built-in charger that handles it for you.

My phone has a fast charge battery and charger but in the instructions, they say to only use it sparingly as repeated fast charging will reduce battery life.

Damn, 850v and 560A? Wonder how many vehicles at a time a charging station would be set up to handle?

You think that ten cars loading up might srrain the system? wink.

Those wires have to be about as thick as a garden hose.......

There are rumors that Tesla is working on a graphene battery, but nothing has been made public. Lithium has been good to this point, but some of the solid state batteries being demonstrated at the lab level have ten times the energy density and much faster charging times.

This graphene battery claim came out of left field and the “experts” can’t believe it. But somebody is going to win the pot of gold at the end of the battery rainbow.........we are just arguing about who and when.
