Were the early MG’s made with a round butt grip?

Both the Mountain Revolver and Mountain Gun versions were round butt, tapered barrel 4" guns.

I have never liked round butt revolvers. I knew there was a reason I never bought one. I know, I know……just me! I’d love to have a square butt .41 or .44 magnum Mountain Gun. Oh well!

i have a 29-8 MG with the factory hogues. i don't like the looks of RB either. it really does not look like your typical RB handgun. some look like a banana which is not to my liking. and it shoots like a dream even with all the mim and lock.

Round butts can fit the Hogue X-frame grip, fits me perfectly.

Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

That's why Altamont makes RB to SB conversion grips as I have on my 657 MG.

All kinds of round to square conversion grips. I have Ahrends on a -6 629. Wonderful. Don’t let the round butt turn you off a great gun.

If you’re reallly into presentation grade wood, and have the money to spend, check out Culina grips. Endless possibilities. Top of the food chain.

I guess I should have bought one or two back in the day when they were more affordable.

Had one in 45 Colt some years back. Wish I still had it, but circumstances separated us. Just picked up a 629-4 MG. This one is a 44 magnum, of course, but it will fill the spot. They were never cheap, but they sure aren't value priced these days.

Have one in .45 Colt. It has the lock but I don't care. Sweet revolver.

I have two, one in 41 magnum and one in 45 ACP/AR. Both good shooters. Like many of you, I wish I had bought them when they were more reasonable. If I had to cut back to one revolver I would be hard pressed to choose between the MG 41 or my Bisley 44 Special.

As much as everyone likes the various cartridges of the MG clan, if you handload, there really isn't anything special the MG's have over a 24-3 or any of the square butt 28's and 27's.
A 4" 24-3 covers .357-45 Colt range (in M&P barreled N frames) almost universally.

Am I the only one who prefers S&W N-frame RB’s over Sq?
I just think they are way more comfortable to shoot.

I like a round butt N frame. I had my 25-5 changed to RB
