This a 30-06 cut to 1.6 pushing a 44 caliber bullet. Dubbed 44 Savage and will be Michigan limited firearms zone friendly. I think it will run in a 300 savage action with a little help.[Linked Image]

That look more like a 44 CTW to me... wink

Tell me more abut the cartridge and your loads!

PS - Hmmm, or open it up to 45-cal and also shoot 45 ACP as a single shot.

I have not put one together yet so I have no Data on its performance. An old G the someone buba-ed that will probably be the test subject. I figure it will run in the rotor with a little work. My uncle in south western Michigan will hopefully be able to give her a try this fall.

Anyone remember the 44 automag? 30-06 cut to 1.3 in, reamed for .429 bullet.

Looks like a rimless .44 Evans, or a rimless .445 Super Mag.

Would a 444 Marlin be too big or are you hoping that the rotor and other parts out of a 99 chambered in 300 or 308 are going to work?

Chris, sorry I never got you any of the "Quality Cartridge" Brass. They have new brass head stamped 400 Whelen. Unlike Whelen's blown out 30-06 that still had the 06 taper, the QC stuff is square all the way out. When I talked to him about the .41 I was thinking on, he said I might want to go up to .429. I think he said his cartridge's would take the .429.

The one I had mocked up with a .410 pistol bullet was cut to 1.9" and it went into the rotor nice, but jammed as some as I tried to lever it forward. Then I got busy.

With this reamer I could cut the chamber 1.9 in depth but it would need to be on a 44caliber. I have been told this will be anemic guess we will see ordered the barrel today.

I think the 1.9 will be difficult to make feed?

Maybe, but certainly up to the task at hand! Rooting for you Chris to pull it off.

Chris, do you mean a 44 as in a 44 mag that's .429, or actually .44? I see your prototype is cast, so I assume you mean .44.

Yep 44 mag 429 or 430. 430 is what I plan to run.

I found two of these magazines down stairs. I might have to go out and find a gun to put them in. In the mean time I'm going to buy a box of the 400 Whelen's. It's only $35 for 20. These are 06 cases trimmed to 1.90, with a 45 Sabot slug. Only thing I had laying around. Over all length was right at 2.25". Three go in nice and comfy, whether they cycle is a different story.
