I read here that post war, (WWII?) steel might have been substituted due to a brass shortage. How long after is something I didn't read or maybe remember.
My 99A, 1980, has a steel rotary. Not sure what war that would have followed but in my case it was probably a cost containment measure.
Someone here has the answer, I'm sure. Impressive group of fellows.
If I talk over you, I apologize. I'm afraid I will lose my train-of-thought.

That seems a little late compared to other SNs but with Savage - who knows.
Why do you ask other than curiosity??
BTW - the rotor in the 99A is aluminum.

The 99s with steel rotors were made primarily during the Korean War.

I had a R 7361xx that had a case colored steel rotor.

Seen the rifle today, it def is a 1953 EG according to the serial and micro stamp. The rotary is case hardened steel. Hardly any wear, exterior case color on the lever is all their. No wear on the cheek pad edges overall wood is 90% Cal 300 Savage. Is he out of line at $800. GW

EG or R?
Price sounds inline with condition you describe.

My 1952 EG 300 Savage has a steel case hardened rotor. I think in ‘57 it would not normally have one.
