I’ve never done much I’ve fishing, but I recently inherited a ton of ice fishing gear. Pretty much everything but a hut. With the season right around the corner I’m thinking about picking one up. What are the better ones out there to look at?

What's your budget, as they can get quite extravagant.

Link to some of the nicer versions

Thanks for the info… My main concern is finding something rugged that will last and survive the winds we have here. I don’t really care what it costs I’m looking for quality.

Clam, then Frabill, then Eskimo, in my opinion.

I picked up a 4 person Clam thermal a couple years ago. Easy set up, holds up fine to the wind & the thermal walls make it noticeably warmer.

When I was ice fishing the shelter that worked best for me was a Fish Trap Scout. Stay mobile and find the fish!

A buddy liked it too, so he bought the 4 man version but it was so big it was a pain and he sold it soon after.

The one man was easy to load, unload and drag on the lakes and if I went with a group I could clip the rope on a snow machine and they would drag them all like a train.

Get the cover for it so it doesn't fill with snow or pop open when being towed or hauled.
Buy some ice anchors so it doesn't take off when you stand up!
Always point the opening downwind, you know why...
Screw some skis to the bottom and the plastic tub will last forever.

There's no Ice Fishing in my new neighborhood but I have fond memories, Thanks for reminding me!
