Love liverwurst on rye bread with chopped onion, cheese and mustard. My wife wouldn't eat it if she was starving.

My wife and I are that way with Braunschweiger. That stuff brings back many childhood hunting memories for me as my dad seemed to have a fondness for it.

I skip the cheese, but otherwise that's a fave here, too. I do prefer braunschweiger for its smoked flavor, but good old liverwurst is just fine.

I was gifted some deer liverwurst. Jewish rye bread mustard and onion is the way I like it. Was a hit in salmon camp.

Enjoyed both as a kid with mustard. Can't touch it as an adult for some reason.

Agreed! I eat a lot of liverwurst but have never put cheese on my liverwurst.

I never tried Braunschweiger, didn't even know what it was. I'll get some next trip to the deli.

Same with me.

Used to eat a sandwich with my grandpa.

Maybe it was the company....more than the sandwich?

Braunschweiger is essentially smoked liverwurst. As with all sausages and such, there are variations in spices and recipes. But the basics are the same.

Besides the classic rye, onion, and mustard sandwich, Braunschweiger is great as an appetizer spread on crackers with a few capers on top.

I like it with a slice of onion - good old white bread, of course.

I'm guessing no one eats it the same way I do...bread with strawberry jam, put liverwurst on top, mustard on liverwurst and a sprinkle of salt. I haven't had it in years, think I'll stop at the Mennonite store and grab a ring this weekend.

You are correct: nobody else on the planet eats it that way.
