.....started Sunday. The boy came up and we headed to the woods about daybreak. It was beautiful in the woods, and NO MOSQUITOS!!! They haven't started really hitting the nuts yet, and I only saw 1. Two shots, but I got the ole girl. Went out yesterday, Saw 3, and shot at 2 different ones, and missed em both! Dam*ed eyes and old age..... The boy got one on Sunday, also.
Changed my mind, and went for about 2 1/2 hrs., before it started getting too hot. Saw 2 and nailed 1 with my good ole single shot H&R Sportster. 1 shot, and DRT.
Looks like a great time. Squirrel season starts September 15th in my home state. One of these years I’d like to go down to Indiana and try a dove opener.
Cool been twenty years since I hunted tree squirrel.. Sure miss it.. Enjoy..
WCH I got it from a pretty good source that theres a bunch of red fox squirrels on the public land out of Lovell on Bighorn Lake.In the cottonwoods of course. If you get in therefor a look, let me know. Here they are considered an invasive specie, so no closed season and no limit....but most of them live in town or on the Powder river.

The boys have killed ten so far. They haven’t been out much due to the heat. All gray squirrels and all out of hickories. Fried em’ up and threw them in the oven for a couple of hours covered in cream of mushroom soup. Fine vittles!!

This was the ole girl I shot.
Glad that you got to get out and enjoy it!!!

Finally got to go this am, since it cooled off some. Popped one with my single shot .22, not 5 mins. after I hit the woods. One shot, straight down, but I couldn't find him in the weeds. Two hrs. later, I came by the same tree, heading for the truck. Walked under the tree from a different direction, and there laid the lil booger. He died closer to the tree, than I thought. Oh well, I'd rather be lucky than good any day.
Finally got out a couple times last week. First day out was a "lets see if this works" kind of day. I took my pudelpointer with me. He loves to chase and look for squirrels in the yard, so I figured I take him with me. While he didn't tree any squirrels, he did well listening and retrieved the two I shot. He was a bit hesitant at first, but found and brought both of them to me.
Saturday morning I headed to an area with quite a few mature hickory trees. Saw and shot one on the way in and then ended up getting 4 more out of one hickory tree. IMG_5477[1] by .com/photos/150924633N06/]Tyler Staggs, on [bleep]
I decided to wait until it cools off this year to start hunting them- too many ticks in my area to risk it (for me). I’m looking forward to some crisp mornings in the squirrel woods, though!
Our season in Ark runs from May till the end of Feb. It’s been too hot for me so far, temps are supposed to be in the 70s/40s this week. I had back surgery today so I’ll miss that window. I’m to the point I’d rather run a small trap line and squirrel hunt as much as anything.
