I got to fondle a transition Win model 70 7mm mauser carbine today. Near pristine condition, but more than my wallet could handle, a mere $10,000. Also had a .22 hornet carbine, probably more rare. I didn’t inquire as to price.

That 7mm would be a nice deer rifle if it weren't so valuable.

Win 70 "Short Rifle" 20" barrel, Cal. 7x57, w/Lyman 48 era Target receiver sight. Also early postwar "Transition" Rifle, 55K SN range. A 'pretty face'! Couple of file pix below.
Best!

Not only carbine but a super grade carbine.

As a side note, I've always sorta liked the short lived transition style safety.

BRISTECD: I’m sure it was satisfying just to see/fondle/be around those two rifles!

Thanks guys! For the record "Transition safety", and "transition barrel clean up program", netting two different animals in my application here. My reference to "prewar barrel supplies" in by then "obsolete chamberings or other features" not intended to be cataloged in postwar production era. Winchester parceling such 'out the door' to favored wholesalers. Such further to my understanding as the marketing mechanism of these tiny quantity configurations in early postwar period. Don't automatically put too much weight on originality of any Super Grade stocking. "Correct", best to be said. Factually... Highly uncommon for just such as here, but making a nifty package. Just adding now the rifle's associated chambering nomenclature pix, which I'd accidentally omitted...

Best!
