I have a mint condition, straight grip stocked 1895 with 22 inch barrel and 000 for the first three numbers in the serial number. It has a Williams foolproof receiver sight and the regular style of rifling in the barrel...not micro-groove. Near as I can figure it is a 1972 manufacture, and I'm wondering about value. It's been fired only a few times. Thanks for any information.

If the number starts with "00", wouldn't that make it a 2000 vintage ?
A "72" would have a number starting with '72'.
Couple of years ago it would've been worth $600-800, maybe. Nowadays, probably $1000-1500!

Yes to both... "72 guns were Micro-groove barrels and did not have the cross-bolt safety. The market for 45-70 levers is cooling. You can check Gunbroker for guns that actually sold to get a gauge.

A "mint" JM should still hold its value...

Serial number is B000xxx. That is 6 digits. The rifling is not micro-groove, but has regular lands and grooves. The front sight is a bead in a dovetail. Thanks for the discussion.
