When and why was the requirement relaxed that shooters must call for the bird with the gun in the un-mounted position?

Not concerned about current rules but looking for when and why it changed

The international style features the previous low-gun position and variable-timing target release, required by NSSA rules up to 1952. Contrasted to the present cheeked gun position, this style is required by the International Shooting Union, a worldwide shooting organization, and the International Olympic Committee, producer of the Olympic Games, where skeet shooting was first included on the program in 1968

No idea on the why.

as mentioned, mid 60's. they dumbed down the game so more would participate. and to save money, where many would complain they didn't see the bird in time due to a poor mount and ask for another. it got expensive for clubs, so they gave them a mounted gun.

They didn’t want to enforce a standard for unmounted. Some were calling for the target with the shotgun almost touching the cheek and saying they were unmounted.

Would have been easy to have a standard…the same as in Fitasc…but they didn’t want to bother making all comply.

And the shooters didn’t want to sacrifice those patches or average to a missed mount.

When? Another will have to give a date.

training films made in the 60's were still showing low gun. many say shooters began shooting premount as early as 1947. I think it was a gradual turn over as time progressed. I have a call into the nssa to see what the first (match) was that allowed premount. even with an answer, old timers continued to use low gun until they died off.
but for the most part, pugs nailed it.
