I wrote this for the regional paper and thought I’d post it here:

Afghanistan — the Tragic Moral Failure of Woke Leadership.

It’s like watching an old film noir of a train wreck, the linked cars lurching off the tracks in tortuous slow motion down a deep chasm. But our Afghanistan disaster won’t come to a definitive end like the train wreck does. It’s an unnecessarily shameful one for America and the geopolitical ramifications will lap at our Western shores and others’ far into the future.

Last week thirteen American servicemen and women were lost to a suicide bomber along with a reported 169 Afghan men, women, and children. Who could not have seen this coming a week ago with the packed crowds at those airport gates? And its far from over.

The whole story should not be allowed to become a victim of rapidly changing news cycles any time soon. Biden now owns this. Any close advisors and staff should resign, either because they agreed to his untenable demand, and perhaps, even if they honorably dissented. But, ultimately, it’s the Democrat Party who knowingly foisted this man upon us along with the uncomfortably phony Kamala Harris. Remember her, being the first out in the Democrat primaries, and more recently, the giggling, sapient Border Czar? For Democrats, a victim group profile has now long superseded being a serious person in politics. Let’s leave out for now any 2020 election chicanery, the questions of which, have not been satisfactorily answered for many American citizens.

Less than two years has brought us the politically weaponized pandemic; Democrat-enabled riots and crime, the release of felons; the COVID-19, and criminal-porous southern border and much more. There’s the Biden Build Back Better agenda (which the National Taxpayers Union Foundation estimates will cost over $10,000 per family) a gigantic expenditure primarily of “green social engineering” — this is what the Democrat Party has given us — an eight month long trail of Break Down Worse. And now, the historic U.S. Afghanistan Withdrawal. Republicans should now begin talking about impeachment or demand Biden’s resignation with an eye toward the 2022 and 2224 elections. Yes, I remember — Kamala Harris.

Jen Psaki , the White House Press Secretary, in the aftermath of the suicide bombing said, “this shouldn’t be about politics; we should come together now.” Deluded confabulatory thinking. When have the Democrats not politicized everything Jen? This withdrawal was completely based on a political agenda.

The decision for us to leave Kabul in the way we have watched it proceed thus far, with the arbitrary August 31 deadline, was an immoral, deluded one. Which is why a withdrawal turned into an evacuation. Biden demanded that date thinking it would be his 9/11 legacy as the highly vaunted president who got us out of Afghanistan. His cognitive decline, which we cannot hold against him, has only uncovered his lack of moral strength, known for years. It also shows a complete lack of any sound judgement. It was Obama’s Secretary of Defense, Robert Gates, who stated that Joe Biden has been on the wrong side of every major foreign policy issue the last forty years. Well, that pretty much covers his career. Stop for a moment, and consider what 9/11 celebrations the Taliban, or Al-Qaeda, or ISIS-K might choose that day for world-wide viewing. May God forbid.

Also consider giving up the much bigger, more secure, two-runway Bagram Air Base (at night, secretly, without letting the Afghans patrolling the perimeter know); leaving $85 billion in weapons — Blackhawk helicopters, drones, other aircraft; military and personal vehicles, small arms, and night vision goggles — all behind. Or, how about this — also leaving behind a biometric database which presumably could be used as a Kill List for all Afghans who helped us. Or this — not even knowing how many Americans are in-country, or where they are.

But there’s more: not providing for secured avenues for friendlies into Kabul, and then to the huge city’s airport. Turning a withdrawal into a chaotic evacuation was a disastrous tactical decision. Leaving without securing the safety of every American and Afghan allies was a total moral failure. That’s not to mention, though I will, not telling our NATO allies what we were up to. Can you imagine that? The Brits who also had citizens there did: the English parliament held President Joe Biden in contempt, the first for an American president. Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair called the spectacle “imbecilic”. These were contemptuous rebukes from our closest ally.

Finally, letting the Taliban dictate the terms of withdrawal to us? By the way, who are all these guys around Biden who are advising him? It’s difficult to choose just two of these cognoscenti, but Secretary of State, Anthony Blinkin, is the guy in 2014 John McCain called “dangerous” to America. Then there is General Mark Milley who has busied himself reading and testifying about White Rage. Apparently, we do not negotiate and comply with terrorists — you know, the Taliban and Al-Qaeda who behead, rape, and mutilate — until we evolve and become Woke!

I don’t remember such horrific emotions since watching The Fall of Saigon in April of 1975; the U.S, not just leaving, but running. Very few of us object to getting out of Afghanistan but it’s the “how and when.” Once again, it’s all on Washington, and this is so much worse. The North Vietnamese had no aspirations beyond their borders and didn’t act as international terrorists.

Horror turns to anger as one sees the images in Kabul, and then listens to the Biden’s various underlings, and the inept Biden himself continually answer the, “why the backwards, precipitous withdrawal” question with the, “it was time for the twenty-year war to end” answer. And then brag about their tremendous airlift operation.

It’s so unimaginable, so stupid on its face, that you can’t think any three regular citizens, with coffee, sitting around a coffee shop, can’t get the order of a withdrawal right. Enter the politics of self-serving ideology which always results in collateral damage — the repression of souls or the loss of human lives. As you read this on September 2, there are Americans and Afghan allies that are stranded in Afghanistan. Yes, Jen psaki, stranded.

Is this just the gross incompetence and moral ambivalence of the president, deep state agencies, and related entities? Or, is this of really nefarious and evil intent? I really don’t know which would be worse.

Well said but the leftist will not read it and they are the ones who need to. I applaud your good efforts and I think your future predictions are on target.

Biden is owned by China, so he will do what is in the best interest of China. China wants the mineral rights to the land in Afghanistan. So, Biden moved American opposition out.

Maybe we should all send him the address of our local paper so that his article could be published in numerous states if he so desired.

That's as well said, complete and well written a summary of this situation and administration that I've seen anywhere.

As someone else said trusting the Taliban was blatantly ignorant but what we've done to our allies in Afghanistan and the people of Afghanistan who trusted us goes beyond politics. It gets down to the basics of what's right and wrong.

Mannlicher, Iowa is largely red outside the cities and our county has traditionally been very conservative, made up of Dutch immigrants farmers. But there are two local liberal arts colleges and the area is not as homogeneous as it once was so there are many more liberals than there were just some decades ago.

Almost all farmers and cattle men here and then agri-related businesses of which there are many are conservatives.
