My new recurve limbs wont be done for a bit.
And my old bow is a little too heavy for my messed up shoulder.

So yeah, I went and bought a set of training wheels.

Now to figure out what rest, quiver and sight to use.

I bought a 50-60#.
Haven't shot wheels under 72# for decades. Figured w shoulder acting up I might have to go down to 55#.

Oh well.

As noted in another post - Whisker Biscuit" will get you started, and on the low end of the price line-up.

Vaportrail Limb Driver - is a good choice IMHO, I used one for a number of years.

QAD HDX if you want to spend a bit more - I use them on my hunting bows now.

You're still shooting, training wheels just help keep that going while you heal.

I run feathers and had a Ripcord on last 2 compounds.
Proly go w QAD this time.

Had an HHA w a Viper 340 front swapped in, with only 1 pin left in it, so I had a horizontal pin smile Yanked the damn level too.
Had 150 in that sight, gonna be a bit more to replicate.

Hate vertical pin.

No complaints with my Hamskea Hybrid Hunter the past 5-6 years.
Prefer Tightspot 5 arrow quiver.
Have been searching for "the" sight for 2 decades - haven't found the one yet. Closet yet is an old Trophy Ridge Micro Alpha 3 pin *but I do like vertical*.

My old 72# Protec was 272 fps.
There left the slider at 25 but could move it for longer if i had time.... Proly buy another HHA.

Arrows heavier, be happy if set for 20 and able to hold on backline for 30 if no time to adjust

I have the vaportrail drop away rest and love it. I cant remember the exact model of it thought (i have had it a few years). I have switched sights a lot but I have been pleased with my IQ lightweight 3 pin sight. I am thinking about switching to a vertical pin but I havent made that jump yet.

The IQ is very simple to sight in and its bright, plus its very lightweight. Worth taking a look at it

I have an old Trophy Taker Pronghorn on my Torrex 29/60. Love those old Trophy Takers. You could not give me one of the new ones........I have a Tight Spot quiver on it, MBG Rush 5 Pin sight, 8" Bee Stinger stabilizer, shooting Easton Bloodline 400's with Whack'em 100gr 3 Blade broadheads. Great bow, shoots broadhead awesome. I have owned a couple (3 now) Hamskeas and that is what I will go to when the old TT's give up the ghost.

My “go-to” set up is now a MBG sight in five pin, a Tight Spot quiver, and an QAD HDX - though I wouldn’t hesitate to use the Limb Driver.

Proly end up w Tightspot quiver.

It arrived.
Set it all up tomorrow. Shoot it next week and mark sight tape.

I never used pre made from a computer program. Just shot and marked it. Buds printed out tapes and held next to mine w proper data and it was damn near the same.

Good enough ( to 50 ).

Like to shoot my deer in the 20 yard plus or minus 5 zone but have shot em farther. 45 the farthest ( so far ).
Just too easy to not see crap that could deflect, safer to just shoot 30 and in unless on a field edge.

I don't care for the vertical pin on the HHA.
And the bow hurt me pretty good getting it drawn for peep adj.
Added a Specialty Archery peep for a verifier later.

Im shooting OK without it.

Bow is quiet, but then my arrows are pretty heavy.

Hurt to draw it first few times. Sore but less pain the last few,
Shot it a dozen times and quit.

Im not solid like I used to be, and string loops put my anchor father back. So.....not gonna shoot as good as I used to.
Competition is a no go.

But it'll be good enough to hunt, and why I went with the cheaper Torrex. Added a Hoyt short carbon stabilizer, not sure how good that is but the bow is pretty darn comfy at the shot.

So.............I have arrows and broadheads for my recurve that are fine w this bow too, so my handicap backup rig set me back under a grand.

Man I hated to spend that money, but w the delay on my recurve limbs and the pain I've been having, had no choice but to plunk the cash and have something to hunt with.

Josh, the main archery dude at Bass & Bucks in Wabash took good care of me today (did my loop and peep and checked rest and timing).
I could have done it myself, have done my own crap for decades (30 plus compounds) and I used to work in a shop.

But he's done the Torrex and was able to time the cams quickly and get my peep and loop done quick.
I wear bifocals now and work like that is a chore.

Better to have a young guy that's done a zillion of em whip it out. smile

OK, the bow is pretty light and is around 30" axle to axle.
I prefer less acute string angle, and that means bows 35-38" axle to axle.

But this isn't a 3D or indoors rig, so not worried about X count.
The shorter length might be nice in a ground blind.

I don't know if its me or the bow, just not locking in like I used to.
String loops I do not like, but think them mandatory when running drop away rests.
I'll run 100 shots through it and see how things have stretched, may have to shorten the DL a little.

No worries about crashing arrows in the X at this time LOL

Will say again, my old Protec from 2005 was a stupid easy rig to shoot well. Think it was 37" A2A and had 65% letoff.

Letting down on this rig, w my bad shoulder, really sucks (hurts). Is only 58#
Skeeters have turned on so backyard shooting is DONE.

Still recovering from gallbladder attack, but should be able to paper tune tomorrow.

Go to club Sat and mark my sight tape to 40 yards.
10 yard increments.

Biatch getting a quiver on w HHA sight.
Got a Fuse 1 pc w adapter and it adds a ton of weight, and sits out too far.
Looks like i might be running a hip quiver.

Prefer bow, not paying 160 for a friggin quiver.
Would make my own adapter brackets if I found another Delta.

Only have one and its on my Widow.

Had a Catquiver way back. Worked well, except when taking a knee during still hunting. Go to get up and that bastard caught on my boot heel. 3rd time in one sneak through and that was it.

Just long enough w my arrows to be a PITA. Othrr than that it was pretty nice

Hate how manufactures have proprietary mountings these days.
Could order a Treelimb bracket but I think the position still not ideal for the quiver I have. Will keep it and slap on a bowfishing rig.

Give it a little time to get the fit right and you to get used to the shorter bow and you just might be surprised at how well a short A to A bow can shoot. I have shot my Hoyt Charger for indoor leagues the last few years and have averaged in the low 440's/450 Vegas and 300 53X on the NFAA face. All with a big old peep and 5 pin sight - BHFS. I would have never believed I would shoot it within a couple points of what I shoot a full blown target rig, but 4-5 seasons of proof have me believing.

I got the quiver tolerable w a bracket. Not too far back or out too far.

Did add a weight disc to stablizer stack. Could use 1 more but its OK as is now

Riser has a 1/4-20 hole down low.
Would like a 4 oz brass weight to add to it ( non quiver side ).

Dont want a bracket w side stabilizer. Just a counter weight.

My shoulders are not good. Nothing feels right
Shot my .243 yesterday, maybe a dozen times
One shot got me pretty good.

My bow groups suck.
Am shooting 3" at 20 yards.

Definitely can shoot a single spot blueface without much worry these days

It's hell getting older. I had a heart attack the end of July, got 2 stints in my heart now. Doc said to do whatever you normally do, just listen to your body. Well chasin' elk is what I normally do in September! Not sure if that's what the doc had in mind, but I'm still kicking and the freezer is full so it's all good!

Degenerative shoulder joints on dads side. Cuz about my age had total shoulder replacement a couple yrs ago.

Xrays show bones in excellent shape so doc thinks impingement and inflammation- work related.
Anti inflams and 6 weeks PT.

If that doesnt fix it then have to MRI to check other.

No cutting for now smile

I added a 6 ox weight to opp side of quiver at lower riser hole (1/4-20 ).
Balanced the bow pretty darn good, but it feels like a regular Hoyt now LOL (heavy).
Paper tune shows barely nock high. Close enough I aint gonna worry about it.

Check some BH's in a few and be done.
