Here's a question for y'all...between the Lyman 450 and the RCBS Lube-a-Matic, does either provide any meaningful advantage over the other? I've used a 450 for nearly 30 years with no valid complaint, but an RCBS unit has fallen in my lap and I intend to sell one or the other. I have heater units for both.

IIRC, I've used Lyman and RCBS dies in my 450, but I'm not sure whether the top punches are interchangeable. What's the deal there?

They are pretty much interchangeable for dies, punches and heater.

I already knew dies were interchangeable, and I've verified that top punches are also. I gave the Lube-a-Matic the once over yesterday and decided I would keep it and peddle the 450. The RCBS unit just appears to be a little more sturdy and I like the integral pressure handle.

I swapped the heater units between the two also. The RCBS was mounted to a Midway heater which has a much larger footprint than my old Lyman heater. So, I will be peddling a 450 with a Midway heater. I have some molds to sell also. I'll be listing them sometime next week.

Ditto. It's an awfully handy system.

If I shot cast bullets as much as some of you guys seem to do I might consider it. As it is I only shoot a couple thousand a year at most, and only seven different bullets in all (and that number is likely to decrease when I finally run out of .357" & .410" gaschecks). The numbers may change when I retire in the next coupla years, who knows...but I really am not that put off with the idea of changing out a sizing die occasionally and the top punch is a non-issue. I tend to stick to casting a single bullet for consecutive weekends during cooler weather and make a whole bunch of them at once so it's not like I need to change out the sizing die frequently anyway.

At any rate, thanks for the replies.

I own both the Lyman & the RCBS. Both work fine , but I find the RCBS to be slightly better quality.

I've owned both and have had good service from both. The RCBS has heavier linkage. RCBS also has better customer service.
