Well, I blew the dust off 2 boxes of bullets deep in my cabinet and found 2 boxes of Barnes 45 gr TSXs.

I hunt coyotes regularly, and occasionally run into a piggy or two. These might just be the trick for both.

Anyone have any experience with these as to powder? I have lots of powder, but none listed for these bullets on the Barnes website nor in their reloading book.

I did see some old posts on the Fire using H335, but thought I'd ask around for any more personal experiences. Not that much data out there on these. Thought maybe 748 might be the ticket too.

I live in the lead-free state, so my choices are limited. As stated in the Title, this is for a 223 Rem.

Look at Hodgdon website, they list data for a number of powders and the 45 gr bullets.

Those little bullets work on whitetail deer out of a .222, but a .223 might be too much gun...

Ingwe, nice buck! I've looked at all the websites for data on the 45s. It's just the uncertainty with the lead vs copper thing with powder levels. I've got an email into Barnes for H335 and 748 in this combo. These days I'm reaching deeper into my reloading cabinet as my powder supplies dry up. The powders Barnes listed for this bullet have been depleted. It doesn't take long to go thru a lot of powder when you get into good ground squirrel country.

Use any data you can find for 45 grainers. The Barnes create less pressure than any of the cup-n-cores so all data is safe with them...

Do the 45 grain Barnes build enough pressure to drive em to max velocity?

Hope so, I'm expecting 3500-3600 fps. Should ventilate a coyote and keep going for a while.

I dont know...never chronoed them, but I did chrono 50 grainers out of a 223AI and they didnt live up to velocity expectations....55s, with more surface area, did.

I think I'll start with H335 for the 45ers and I'll chrono them.

I did load up some 50 TTSXs recently. Tac with a book max of 26.4. I didn't chrono them yet, but got just under an inch groups @ 100 yards. They grouped in the same spot as the 50 grain Varmint Grenades in my 1:8 Tikka, so I was happy about that.

The Tikka will make them sing!

Hopefully they'll shoot in my Rem 700 Classic too!

They should...thats a short bullet and that gun is a 12 twist.

The two whitetails I posted above were both killed with a .222, one with a 12 twist, and one with a 14 twist, so Im sure it'll work in your classic.

I heard back from Barnes. They said what you said Ingwe, use lead data, but start low and work up.

Compared to say a 40 grain V Max or Ballistic Tip...

With IMR 4198, you can easily hit 3600 fps with them... you won't give up much with a 45 grainer..

AR Comp will push them to 3800 fps range...

I won't give out the charge, since its over book max... but with RL 7, you can hit 4000 fps with a 40 V Max or B/Tip.

I've used those 45 gr Barnes and have taken a few Blacktails with them, and have loaded 223s to 22 Hornet specs for kid, who have dropped Blacktails at Hornet speeds....

So you really don't have a bullet that will fell the mission unless you miss the animal or really put it in the wrong place...

I’ll post a load on here after working one up. I’m out of state for a few weeks. What I’d use this load for is whacking coyotes in an area that has the occasional piggy.

I use a variety of barnes bullets, use standard cup and core bullets. I set the Barnes .050 off the lands and never had to move from there to get exceptional accuracy....exceptional.

H335, AA2230 will be your mack daddy powder for speed and accuracy, MANY others will give exceptional accuracy but 100 fps slower.
