I took my oldest boy and nephew out this week to see if we could find a bou. Not a lot of animals around where we were, but we managed to find one small bull among the cows and calves. He said he only wanted to shoot a bull, so that was we had to find.

After a short 300yd stalk my boy dropped it with his ‘06 and 150gr Fusions. When he shot he was confused as the bull just vanished. He didn’t see it go down as it just folded up instantly with an upper lung shot. I love the sound of that bullet slap!

This was my nephews first hunting trip, and he found some ptarmigan for dinner as a flock literally flew right through camp! Always nice to be out there and hate to see the trip end. We already packed up headnets for next year. What a mistake it was not bringing those!! Those damn whitesocks were brutal!

I just received a photo of a hunting friend and one of the two grizzlies he took this past few days somewhere in Alaska. Not sure where, but he said he is taking a boat, float plane, and piper cub just to get to Fairbanks. Then flying home to Texas. Should make a good camp fire story later in deer season.

We did see a pretty large and beautiful silver tipped grizz on the gut pile of my buddies bou. We had been sitting at our overlook for 30 min or so and it just popped up. Before we could even think about taking a shot, it must have winded us and took off like a bat outta hell. I’m guessing it had been laying down in the brush the whole time.

It’s a Luxe Hiking Gear Megahorn teepee, removable bathtub floor, with a batwing tarp and extra pole. The whole setup now is about $400 plus shipping. I’ve had it for several years and it works great. It’s good for 2 and some gear inside, or 3 without gear (using a stove). I didn’t spring for the titanium stove but went with a KniCo trekker.

It was just a joke name my kids called them when they were young. It stuck with me! Haha!
