I've made 6 an hour and I've made 6 figures a year. Blue and white collars in my closet.
Having done both - if I could do it over, at 18/19 - I would have found a good trade and stayed. Plumber or electrician.
I was in construction, working at being a fireman. I had it pretty good, working under the table with an offer to go to carpenter school. I was so happy I almost said no when I got a registered offer of employment from Los Angeles County. Glad I took the county job though my body is just as beat as if I stayed in constrution.

it all comes down to gumption. if a young person has it, opportunities abound. a hell of a lot more than when i got out of HS in 1980. you couldn't buy a decent job around here then. now there are a lot of ways for a person to succeed if they just get off their ass and get hungry for it.

Labor laws and tax laws designed to keep everything fair and equitable have really shallowed up the labor pool.
Fugging payroll taxes.......
Plus, retirement plans that stipulate that you can't work while drawing benefits.

My nephew is a Driller on a rig in West Texas, his entire crew is Mexican, he had to learn Spanish to run the rig.
Imagine a corporate oligarchy so effective, so advanced and fine tuned that its citizens still call it a democracy.
