Displaying, meaning not selling?

Agree on needing pics. Both out of my distance and price range anyway, though. All my play money for quite a while went into rebarreling one of my EGs and stocking up on loading supplies for it when it comes back.

Magnum Bob came by and bought copies of my book and Rory's.
The 1924 vintage 99C in 300 sold shortly after I set up yesterday.
Here are pics of my display and the guns that are for sale. I photographed an 1899A in 22Hi-Power. I'll start a new post on that one.

Man, all of those have beautiful wood. The 2nd from the bottom on the right is probably the nicest grain I've ever seen on a 99. All of my stocks look like 2x4s compared to any of those.

zcm82. the second from the bottom on the right is a one-off prototype factory engraved 99CD produced in the 1970's. I posted pics of it on here when I got it last fall. I'll take some closeups tomorrow that shows the rifles better.

I've got a set of uncheckered wood like that.

got a display of merit. They changed the categories. I got much higher awards in the past. There were a lot of vacant tables and I heard some grumbling. There wasn't much in the way of 99's. Some were bubbaed with prices way too high. I sold 12 copies of my book and 6 of Rory's. Several guys said they liked the larger pics in my book. Some guys bought a copy of each.
I bought a 1919. Did they have serial numbers? magazine is missing too. will post pics in the next day or two.

Sounds like a good weekend no matter what!

Serial number on 1919 is stamped on the rear rim of the receiver, no?

Rear of the receiver under the bolt, I believe. There will also be numbers on the buttstock and buttplate, but high odds they don't match. grin

Found the serial number on the back of the receiver. Hard to read but I believe it is 6929. Buttplate is 6202 and the buttstock is 7447.
It is missing the magazine and the rear sight. It has grooves on the receiver which a 22 scope fits. The bore looks good and it's pretty clean.

Is this new enough to use modern 22 hi power ammo or does it require the less powerful stuff?
I don't think I need it. What is it worth?

You'll want to shoot standard velocity ammo with that. It's a pretty early 1919. I just picked up one slightly above that recently.

All the 1919's were made before the advent of HV ammo. Use your discretion. I don't know if a diet of HV will batter the locking lug and increase headspace or not. The main thing to keep in mind when playing with these is if something major gets screwed up, like excess headspace, there's no swapping barrels. My biggest complaint about the whole line of Savage .22 bolt guns (and Hornets, .25-20, .32-30) from that era.

hopefully I've got some low velocity 22 ammo. I don't do 22s much and not sure what I have.
