Anyone know, is a Leupold VX2 4-12 A/O safe to use on a springer air gun?
Any recommendations for scopes on a springer with a peak power of about 12X, plain duplex reticle, and $500 or less?

No scope is really safe from springer airguns....

But the Bushnell Trophy XLT 4-12 is a pretty legit airgun scope for under $200 and Bushnell will warranty it for springer airgun use.
A lot of people like the Hawke AirMax line.
Element Helix should be a good springer scope too.

I have one of those Bushnells (now discontinued) and it lasted through at least 1000 rounds on a RWS 54 Air King, which is technically “recoiless”, but has significant vibration and the mechanism slides back and forth. It.’s always adjusted as it should. At some point it will go back on the airgun, which is currently being used for a test bed for another sight.

Always check with the manufacturer if there’s any doubt about springer use. Besides the Bushnell, there are some well-regarded Hawkes (Chinese), and the SWFA SS 6x and 10x. The SWFA would be my choice now as it’s dead reliable and focuses very close. One of the 6x ran well for a bit on my 54, but like with the Bushnell, the total weight is obscene.

Call Leopoldo and ask. I do know that I am using the VXII 3x9 rim fire on my air rifles without issues. I have fired over 1K closer to 2K without scope issues. Some other brands will end up in a ziplock after that many round when mounted on an air gun.

Thanks Lynn
I did that just now.
They said the VX2 A/O 4-12 is good to go on springer air guns.

I've used Leupolds for years on magnum spring guns and never had one break. I did have an RWS 54 break two Burris scopes despite Burris telling me they were airgun rated.

Leapers scopes have held up well for me and a few friends .
I have a 4x BugBuster on a Gamo Fixed barrel 1000fps rifle that has seen 7-8 thousand shots practice/ground squirrel fields of idaho/black birds/etc. .

Leapers makes a 3x12 or use to and a model 4x16 - a friend has used the 3x12 for a dozen years on a fixed barrel springer Wiehrauch 22cal. .

I've put a lot of pellets through air rifles with Hawke scopes and so far have had no problems. The AirMax 3-9x40 is pretty good for around $200.

I tried a Hawke AirMax for my Hatsam .30 Caliber, but it did't work out too well. Switched to a older Burris Eliminator 4200 I took off my suppressed .44 hog carbine the I put a EcoTech o it, and the Burris so far is holding up well on the .30 air rifle.

Hard to beat a Nikon Prostaff EFR, if you can find one.

I've gotten to where I need a scope on my RWS Diana 34. I didn't have an airgun scope, but I did have a spare Burris Fullfield E1 2-7X laying around. Parallax is not ideal, but still useable. It's got an etched reticle and I've read that Burrises are fine on spring guns. Not my experience. I've got about 25 shots through it since I put it on and POI is already off.

I've got a Diana zero recoil mount coming. Hopefully this will cure the POI shift issue.

I just got my Hawke AirMax scope. Holy cow, it's a nice scope. My first Hawke. Its going to be too short to fit the Diana Bullseye ZR mount. I'll go ahead and mount it in some BKL double strap ring mounts and hope for the best. Hawke has a lifetime no-fault warranty.

I put a 2-7x32 AO Tasco air gun scope on my Walther Parrus. Optics ain't the greatest but it ain't too bad either. It has held zero perfectly for about 500 shots so far and spring guns don't come much more powerful than the Parrus.

Well, the Burris went to heck on my Hatsam! Elevation dial came unscrewed & fell out when I removed the cap to try for am adjustment. Tried the RWS "Lock Down Mount", didm't seem to have helped much. Have one of the "other" recoil-less mounts coming, will try that with a Weaver. May put the Hawke back on & try that until them.

OK, trying the Weaver Classic 3x9 on my Hatsam .30, with the RWS "Lock Down"mount. Have it "sighted in", & zero problems SO FAR. Also trying a Bushnell Bammer 3x9 & a Mizugiwa mount (similar to the RWS) on a Bemjamim Prowler .177 break barrel. Both of these scopes were purchased "unused" from folks who wanted "better" optics for centerfire rifles, so they were priced attractively. If they hold up, the mounts will make them good choices for my air rifle use.

I'll report back after more shots have been fired, to see how they work out.

You can't go wrong with any of the Hawke brand airgun scopes for a value. They are a bit heavy, but lots of features for the price, and springer rated. I personally use a lot of Weaver classics V9, V16, V24s on my spring guns.

I like that scope too. Mine started out on a Hatsan 125, and survived with flying colors.

Later I migrated it to an Air Venturi Avenger PCP. Great scope. I find max 9X is plenty for the ranges of these air rifles.

Do you need one of these? I currently have one for sale in the classifieds.
