I vaguely remember those flares from my childhood in the early 70's. Very cool finds.

Just pump the thing up .
Put water on the solder.
Check for leaks.
Resolder.
No biggie

Spray paint the tank matte red engine paint if the looks bother you.

Have my late 70's Coleman stove put up with extra NIB pump assbly. and regulator along with a can of Coleman fuel.
It's a dual fuel so I guess I could run unleaded in it in a pinch.

It's ready for the apocalypse or SHTF scenario.

I’ve got a bunch of that old azz Coleman stuff I ought to do something with. I will never use it again.

I will buy you a tank of gas to head north with it!

Or maybe you could hid it in Birdy's fanny pack when he comes north again.

I'll bet Hanco could lay down a pretty silver solder job on that tank.

I could mess it up worse.

Wonder if they brazed the end caps on that tank?

In an effort to fool Darwin, I've repaired a lot of vintage fuel tanks, mostly on military vehicles......if you file that glob of solder down, locate the pinhole, tin a penny or a strip of flattened brass cartridge case with 60/40 acid core, and put the penny/strip over the hole or seam and then apply the heat with an old school soldering iron, no open flame, you will get a good strong job. Last thing you want is a pressurized tank of fuel splitting open just before breakfast. Silver solder, you're looking at 700 deg's...plain ol' 60/40 at 450 or so.

Well this is a fine pickle we're in, should'a listened to Joe McCarthy and George Orwell I guess.

Every now and again one of the maintenance sections would come up with one from out in their shop area. I well remember them too!! And the old wooden 6-8” dia. silver painted with black band at the top delineator posts! They had a silver reflector in the black band. They weren’t too crashworthy. 🤣🤣🤣

A family friend soldered a leaky gas tank on a Super M, with gas leaking out at the time.

I understand he scattered any bystanders. laugh

Got to thinking. Bad thing. Do they still use those old smugde pots at the rifle range? Like we did in boot camp? We used em to blacken the front sight on our rifles while at practice and qualification.
