The thing you have to remember about Chippy is that although he was a traffic cop for a while, he was mainly a lawyer.

I will say that I agree 100% with Waders on his post and will ask a simple question of Chippy. IF new owners of 1911's will not/did not take the time to read and understand the owners manual why in heavens name do you feel they will take time to Google the innerweb to find your "expert" post?

A normal human would simply post a thread titled “PSA. It isn’t considered a safe practice to carry a 1911 loaded with the hammer at half cock.”

While there are certainly a few new 1911 owners who are mentally ill-equipped to look out for themselves, your assumption that I “feel” they will take the time to seek out this thread is mistaken. You need to re-read what I’ve actually said.

Either carry a 1911 or a Browning Hi Power with an empty chamber OR with a round in the chamber and the safety engaged and keep your booger hook of off the trigger. The half cock notch on the hammer is for catching the hammer if it follows the slide ONLY. It is NOT a safety position.

Here is the reason for this thread. Several commenters appear to have missed it. But, at least one member understood it.

Wow, it seemed way more likely that self-aggrandizing douchebaggery was the reason. Quite a relief to learn otherwise.

Sheesh. I learned (without shooting myself) 50 years that half-cock isn't safe, so did everyone else here (give or take a decade). These posts belong on the "Pistols for Dummies" forum.

Make sure you include that if you put your finger inside the trigger guard when you holster your Glock. M&P, etc. you will shoot yourself. I recall a lot of stories in the news about LEO's doing that a few years back.

His self aggrandisement is truly off the charts.

The only thing that comes close is his ability, as noted here :

" if only there were such a forum which Dummies would actually read."

To insult everybody on the forum.

Unbelievable. It is no wonder he chose to get out of LE (or had it chosen for him). I can't imagine he would last long today running his mouth like that.
