Be well 673, These are difficult times.

I appreciate Steve’s efforts , he means no harm, and keeps us focussed on the real enemy is within our far flung country.
JWR was man handled by JT and his PMO handlers over SNC Lavalin. Probably just the tip of the iceberg.
This needs to be investigated and prosecuted. The ethics commissioner was just the first step.

Remember the Liberal gun prohibition and proposed handgun bans when you vote.

And just so you know, I lived on the Island, in Comox, and used to visit Cape Mudge. I am very aware of who JWR’s father was, but it has little to do with the book.

338Rules,

The truth will come out. Much depends on how hard the RCMP can press and if David Lametti lets them do their job.

Not much is said about Bill Blair and his value to the Liberal Cabinet. He spent 39 years as a cop, and was Toronto's chief of police for his last 10. Blair started his career walking a beat. Over the years, he worked undercover, in drug enforcement and investigated organized crime. His dad was a cop and his grandfather was a firefighter. He had regular dealings with the RCMP and the Ontario Provincial Police. He's connected, has a history, and is well liked by his constituents. Unless he makes a big mistake, he will only leave office feet first.

What was it about Bill Blair that got the Liberals attention? It wasn't his looks. And most liberal minded people don't like cops. His draw was where he lived and worked - in vote rich Ontario.

Blair knows how the police run. He was in charge of a department with a one billion dollar a year operating budget. But that really wasn't what makes him appealing to Liberal insiders. He knows the city. Of the 338 federal ridings in Canada, 121 are in Ontario. That's over a third of the total number of seats in the country. Just in Toronto and the GTA, there are 57 ridings - 17% of total number in a tiny area of approximately 7100 sq. km. If you factor in the ridings immediately outside the GTA, it's over 100. That's a lot of seats! And it's obvious that politicians from every party are interested in controlling that real estate.

Blair knows where the rich and the poor live. He knows where the immigrants hang out, work and vote. He knows where the crimes occur. As a cop, he dealt with all of this daily. Because the area is so vote rich, and his insider knowledge is vast, he's the local expert. Blair helps get those votes. He's 67, so he could be around for a while.

Working in Toronto as a cop doesn't necessarily make a person anti-gun, but Blair is. His biggest liability as a politician is that he only knows Toronto. He doesn't understand anything outside of the place where he was born. He doesn't understand the rest of Ontario, much less the other provinces and territories. That kind of narrow focus makes him dangerous to anyone living outside of the GTA.

SR : Thanks for that background on BillB. It fills in some blanks in my understanding of him.

are his policies actually popular within the GTA ? I can see where the uninformed might latch onto them.

As a Westerner, I can’t stomach the lies and misrepresentations he relies on. Just fear mongering.
It seems to me that he is actually promoting the illegal gun trade. Does he benefit from that in some way ?

Surely with all his experience he can come up with sound gun control policies , that are actually viable.

I think his beliefs are popular in Toronto. I believe living in a big city scares some people. The news they watch every night helps to program an anti-gun response. They are constantly told by their leaders that eliminating guns will make their lives safer.

Scared people will accept any solution to feel better. Even wrong ones.

I can’t see him benefiting from that fear or any anti-gun legislation. He’s lived with the uglier side of humanity, in a big city, all his life. He doesn’t see any other solution. He is unwilling to talk with others to find a way forward.

I understand Bill Blair perspective now,Steve. When I was 21, half a century ago, I drove cab for 6 months in Burnaby. Burnaby borders Vancouver. I much preferred working day shift with it's short haul of grannies and groceries than the night shift and it's drunks. I called the night shift hauling garbage

on another note, it looks like the Liberals will retain her seat by the skin of their teeth

Seems very Un-Liberal of him.

Prohibition justified by manipulation of Fear !

They could be much more productive by policing the illegal street gun trade,
instead of squandering public resources harassing legitimate law abiding gun owners.

The municipal grants for imposing Hand Gun bans, is just a end run boon doggie which will be abused by the politicos with their snouts in the trough, Ha

Fund and promote construction of safe shooting ranges. I’d vote for that !

You would think that after living in TO for a lifetime, and being a cop, he has seen the reports of what guns are being used, and where they are coming from. I think it's irresponsible of him to jump on the gun ban bandwagon, but hey, look at the money making opportunities! A fine pension for being police chief and another good one from the federal government.

Simple fact is gov't is not interested in saving lives or reducing crime with their anti gun, public safety charade. It is about disarming the public. The gov't has no intention of doing anything about gun related crime. In fact it would be to their advantage for gun crime to escalate thus falsely justifying more anti gun legislation. Gov't is taking advantage of public ignorance in the matter and creating irrational fear. The reason they are doing/allowing this is because the gov't is not scared of criminals and their illegal guns but rather they are scared of an overall armed public in the event of revolution where the people could take up arms against the gov't. Gov't would really like to be rid of general gun ownership before implementing some of the global, socialist/communist agenda that is coming down the pipe.

It's about power and control, which the Liberals almost lost in this election... So.... anything goes for holding onto power; telling lies and fear mongering! The best place for that is Toronto where the majority know little to nothing about how the rest of Canadians live! I'm from Eastern Canada (New Brunswick) and a small fishing community but have lived in Montreal, Hamilton, Halifax and Toronto where any thoughts of enjoying "nature" is in a luxurious waterfront "cabin" outside "The Big City"! There may be the occasional skunk, coon or coyote roaming nearby, but what's that? They already have that in "The Big City" where wildllife is "protected" by political "experts" who know best! So Trudeau and company were raised in such a culture, and know little to nothing of how the majority of Canadians live... and they think a ban on guns will inspire a majority to thank them... including Bill Blair!

Just ponder this for 2 seconds... 31% of Canadians WHO VOTED "chose Trudeau" (according to our Liberal media) to rule ALL Canadians again! According to the Liberal media: CBC, CTV and Global, that was a "good thing" as we can now count on a steady diet of "sameness"! But that's also the direction of the world that has rejected the true God and his Son!

They are not dumb or stupid, they are conniving con men who bank on the publics gullibility to think they are benevolent but misguided. This type of thing is right out of the social engineering 101 play book. Bill Blair and his ilk are not stupid and people need to open their eyes and pay attention to what is going on. They are orchestrating this very badly written nefarious legislation into fruition right in front of our very eyes...I wouldn't call them the stupid ones.....

Then don’t come over. laugh

We’ll be going to the polls again in another 18 months according to O’Toole. We will probably elect a Conservative government. And it won’t be because Canadians will want a Conservative govt, but because they will vote Trudeau out.

I think too, most people live in cities and believe that they should be in total control of what we do. A lot of people think driving 10 miles out of town is going into the boonies, and living off the land. There are no McDonalds or malls around.

Most politicians grew up in those cities and they know best, right?

SNC-Lavalin investigation update: The RCMP continue the investigation into fraud and forgery. The charges concern bribes that were allegedly paid in exchange for SNC-Lavalin obtaining contracts.

I doubt that Trudeau was directly involved in any of this. Hopefully, the RCMP will continue the investigation and find the government players who were involved with the SNC-Lavalin company

Update: SNC-Lavalin corporations and two former senior executives facing fraud and forgery related charges
September 23, 2021
Ottawa, Ontario

News release

Two Quebec men have been arrested and a number of charges laid, including fraud against the government, fraud, forgery and conspiracy, in connection with a lengthy and comprehensive criminal investigation by the National Division RCMP Sensitive and International Investigations section.

Project Agrafe focussed on investigating allegations of criminal wrongdoing involving Quebec-based corporations SNC-Lavalin Inc. and SNC-Lavalin International Inc., related to bribes that were paid in exchange for obtaining a contract.

On September 23, 2021, two Montreal-area men were arrested in connection with the investigation. Normand Morin is a former vice-president of SNC-Lavalin, and Kamal Francis a former vice-president at SNC-Lavalin International Inc.

They, along with the corporate entities of SNC-Lavalin Inc. and SNC-Lavalin International Inc., have each been charged with the following offences under the Criminal Code of Canada:

Forgery (366 C.C.)
Conspiracy to commit forgery (465/366 C.C.)
Fraud (380 C.C.)
Conspiracy to commit fraud (465/380 C.C.)
Fraud against the government (121 C.C.)
Conspiracy to commit fraud against the government (465/121 C.C.)

"This was a lengthy and highly complex investigation, and I'm proud of the consistent and professional work of our team," says Inspector Denis Beaudoin of the National Division RCMP Sensitive and International Investigations section. "As a result of their continued dedication, evidence was identified and gathered over a number of years, which has ultimately resulted in the charges announced today."

National Division Sensitive and International Investigations is mandated to investigate criminal activity that poses a threat to Canada's government institutions, public officials, the integrity of the Crown, or that imperils Canada's political, economic and social integrity.

"We remain committed to disrupting, deterring and preventing both domestic and foreign corruption, and aim to bring individuals and companies involved in these types of crimes to justice, regardless of when they were committed," adds Insp. Beaudoin.

Normand Morin and Kamal Francis were released from custody and are scheduled to appear in a Montreal court on September 27, along with representatives for SNC Lavalin Inc. and SNC Lavalin International Inc.
