Gonna be reloading soon for my first 270, a Rem 700. Be starting with couple of the 130 & 140gr bullets. I already have some Reloader 17 that I will try. I'm going to for sure get some 4831. Is there a noticeable difference between H4831 and IMR4831, and also the SC??? If so I'd like to spend the $ on my best chance selection!

You may not need to try anything else after the RL17.

If you try 4831, I would opt for the Hodgdon. SC not that important.

I use RL 17 in mine with 130 Federal Fusions at 3200fps. I run H4831 with 145elds in another. I think youll be happy with either selection but I lean RL17 more.

H4831 and H4350 both shot well with 130s out of mine (Rem 7600), but rifles are very much individuals. My uncle has an identical model rifle, and it shoots both of those powders terribly, but is a tack driver with H414. A lot of it is just luck and listening to the rifle.

H48831 has worked very well for me in any 270 I’ve used it in.

My Kimber 84L 270 loaves 55.3gr H4350/Barnes 129 LRX. (RWS cases) I've also had great results with IMR 4064, IMR 4350, H4831, R26. I never tried R17 in it as at the time I was also workign with a 300WSM and R17 was "magical" with the 168 TTSX, ha

My current and more than a few past 270s of mine liked IMR 4350 with 130's.

I've always used IMR 4350 whether the bullet weight was 130 0r 140.

In one of my 270’s with Nosler150 B/tips, H4831 and H4831SC gave practically identical velocities and spreads but the SC version gave groups at each charge level that were 2 - 3 times larger than H4831. So if one doesn’t work you may want to try the other.

H4831 is the classic. SC is the same but meters better. Trouble is finding any.

RL26 gives great velocity with 150's, maybe harder to find than H4831.

Hunter is also good in the 270 and may be easier to find.

57grs of IMR 4831 with any 130gr bullet has always been a accuracy sweet spot in any of the 270wins I've loaded for.

Reloder 16, 19, and 22 have been good powders also.

Thanks everyone, you've pretty much confirmed what I thought! I'm definitely going to start with the RL17 I already have, and gonna try get H4831 for the same test. I already have 4064, it's my best powder in my 30-06, to try if the results of the first 2 aren't good, but suspect I won't have to look any further. But if I do, I'll save this thread, and I'll have ideas where to go! I'll eventually probably try some 150grs in it, but not to start. My 30-06 covers all that good enough. I hunt whitetails, and most shots are inside 100yds. Most, but much longer can happen!
4350 sure seems to do well, so I may go ahead try it!

H4831SC definitely reduces the crunch when you drop the powder and flows better if you’re using a basic hopper dispenser.

I use 55 grains of IMR 4350 with a 130 ballistic tip or a partition, over 40 years now.

For 130's mine likes IMR4831. It doesn't meter worth squat but since I only use it for hunting it only gets shot a few times a year. For ELDX's it really shines with unobtanium (RL26).

I am continually astounded at how quickly people make up their minds on little evidence or none at all.

I have been shooting the 270 Win for decades and have always got the best accuracy with H4831 with 130-150gr bullets. I have tested other powders along the way but always came back to H4831.....................until I tried RL26 !!!!
