Harvested my first recurve bear opening day of Georgia’s archery season. Practiced all summer with an old bear Kodiak, all that practice came to fruition around 7 that evening when this 130 pound young boar came in to a yellow jackets nest on a ridge separating two hollers full of white oaks, chestnut oaks, and a few red oaks. He was close enough that I didn’t range him and after the shot I stepped out 13 yards, which made me pretty proud to be within that distance of a smart animal like a bear. He ran about 75 yards and let out a death moan, which is a bone chilling yet reassuring sound. His meat is in my freezer, one of his hams has already been smoked and is probably the best ham I’ve ever had. His hide will hang on the wall next to others and will bring back memories for my lifetime. [Linked Image]

Nice job. It sounds like you earned that bear! Those are the most rewarding ones, at least they are for me. 👍

Thanks again guys, hoping to put a 54 caliber round ball in one in a couple weeks. Have put 21.5 miles in the mountains looking for a big one and believe I’ve found him. Knock on wood😁
