Anyone seeing the new rifles out yet? I've got a hankering for the Swede!

Just got off the phone with a local gun shop. They have 222, 223 and 243 in stock. No Swedes and he didn't think he could get one. I think I will be taking a drive to look at them.

Swede, came in Friday. Saw one on gunbroker and one on gunsinternational as well.

Thanks, I'm pleased. $1719 is MSRP, I got it for $1500. On the other thread, looks like another guy got is for $1500 as well, maybe a little cheaper depending on what his tax rate was.

I should have one here shortly, and I’m curious to know about the weight of the rifle.

I called Winchester and they told me it was 7 pounds plus , but that one looks to me to be the same barrel contour as the browning low walls that were out several years ago.

Is it pretty much a copy of the Brownings, or heavier?

I have yet to own a Browning clone of the 1885 over the last 40 years that didn't shoot extremely well, both Low Walls and High Walls (B-78's). If I didn't own a sweetheart of a Ruger #1A 6.5x55 I would be chomping at the bit for a new Low Wall in that caliber. Might have to anyway!

Miroku, definitely knows how to make very fine barrels.

Three shot groups, not extensive testing, blah blah blah. I’m pleased with dads shooting while I slave away at work appropriately using AutoCad…

I bought one today off GB. The wood is good, though I think it's a stretch to call it Grade III or Grade IV. Will be real interesting to get it running. One plus is these rifles have 8" twists, so they should be able to shoot the long bullets intended for the 6½ CM.

What load are you using?

I have some 129gr Hornadys on order, as well as 140gr ELD's on hand. Seems like R26 or Big Game should be good powders

I’m a wood whore, you bought a beautiful gun. I would not ever buy a gun with upgraded wood, unless I saw the actual gun. Seems that the grading of wood is pretty loose.

There's one at the LGS I saw yesterday, a Swede for $1439 and change. handled it, liked it, handed it back. wood was good but not great, I needed it like I need another hole in my head, but I know need has nothing to do with it. Hope someone picks it up and enjoys it. Also had what appeared to be an 1876 in 50-90. Pretty sure it wasn't Winchester, but was nice.

I’d only bought 129 grain Interlocks and 120 grain ballistic tips. Neither dad or I have any other 6.5 rifles so bullet selection limited to these so far.

Dad has been doing the load work up and H4831SC and 4350 for powders, both giving good groups, but I think 4831 was best and what he ended up using, but both were good. Max book loads weren’t showing pressure signs from what he said.

I'll add that the 120 Ballistic Tips were with Varget.

All I'll say is your LGS are better than my LGS.

My Fieldcraft in 6.5 Swede really likes the 130 Accubond and RL 19 as well as the 130 Scirocco and RL 19. You might try those components if you can find them.

And don't ignore The Red Headed Stepchild, IMR 4831. It has provided the sweet spot in a slew 0f 6.5x55's I've owned over the last 40 years, from Swedish Mausers through American commercial rifles.

I'd like to hear more about your IMR4831 loads.

I usually use H4831 with a 140gr in 6.5x55, 45.0 in the mausers, 47+/- in the modern rifles.

I try to use the temperature tolerant powders like most of the Hodgdon line, since in AZ I could load up a bunch one month in the 70F fall/winter/spring and shoot it for fun at the range a few months later in the summer when its 110F. (yeah we shoot in that kinda weather down here!)

My IMR loads mirror your H loads in weight. I don't hotrod the cartridge, but IMR 4831 is a slight bit faster burning no? 120 to 140 grain bullets are my mainstay, and I heavily rely on 129 Hornady Interlocks and 139 Scenars within that range. Lapua brass lasts seemingly forever with those loads in a Ruger #1A when primarily neck sized (partial full length sized actually).

My Browning LW .260 has (as far as we can tell) a 9.5 twist. It handles the Hornady 140 sp just fine, but I’ve only run it to 100 yards to date. It really likes the Hornady 129 sp and for my use that’s probably going to be my go to load. I have a good supply of Sierra 85gr hp that it shoots like a laser - minimal recoil and just plain fun.

When I had the Talley base on it, I needed to use the low rings to get the scope down where I wanted it. I went back to the original Browning base recently to take advantage of the windage adjustments. Lee Shaver, did a trigger job on it and substantially lightened the pull weight.

Again, nice catch - enjoy it.

I'm still looking. None of the LGS that I've talked to have been able to find one.

I bought one in 22 hornet about eight weeks ago. Very nice wood. And it’s accurate.

Picked up a Swede LW yesterday at the LGS 30 miles west of me. Next town over. Nice wood on this specimen. Topped it with a Kahles AH 3-9x42 TDS that was languishing on top of the gun cabinet. Thinking some 125g Partitions at 2800-2900 fps should match the TDS reticle pretty close.

Not comparable to a .264 by any stretch, but I recently acquired a Low Wall in 17 WSM. Won’t be shooting it any time soon.

I bought a like new used one in 17HMR a while back.

I've had a "Traditional Hunter" in .22 WRM for about three years now. It even shoots unleaded ammo well enough for "walking varminter" ranges (around 50-100 yards where I hunt). Always puts 3 shots in "minute of jack rabbit, crow, or Califonia ground squirrel (world's fattest ground squirrels) at those ranges. An it's purty.

That was at Williams in Lapeer, believe it’s been long sold, but I was there a few days ago and the had a high wall in 6.5 Creedmoor.

I have to agree with you completely. I have several of them in different configurations, and the most accurate of the 14 .22s I own are 1885 low walls made by Miroku.

I'd love to try a Miroku made 1885 in 6mm Creedmore.or better yet, a 6mm PPC if I could find enough brass.
