The majority of squirrels in Vancouver's Stanley Park are black (or at least used to be ten years ago) though there are plenty of grey ones. I have seen black ones in suburbs of Vancouver clear out to Abbotsford. They are pretty big squirrels, eastern greys I presume.
There was a solid white squirrel living in the trees of the family cabin Saw it couple times, then never saw it again. Prolly got et. Stuck out like a sore thumb.
Black and red squirrels by the thousands in Council Bluffs Iowa. Only the reds in central Iowa and red and grays in eastern Iowa.

They were the most common color of squirrel at a camp we used to go to in McKean County PA on the NY border when I was a kid. Don't know the extent of their range there though or if it's still the case.
Agreed! I hunt that area every year and in some parts you'll see more black squirrels than any other. Where was your camp?
I sure could go for some $2.50/gal gas and a mean tweet!

I’ve seen some individual black (melanistic grays) squirrels, but it’s been a few years ago in the NC mountains.
Fox squirrels are getting really scarce except WMA’s where they’re protected. I’ve seen two here in the upstate in maybe twenty years.
The black phases are really cool looking, big and look like a raccoon. I’ve seen them in the Sandhills area of SC and at Piedmont National Wildlife Refuge in Ga.

Corydon Township, across 346 from Willow Creek a little east of the 321 intersection.

Wow! We've definitely walked some of the same dirt. I've spent a lot of time camped in Willow bay and Tracy Ridge. On a rare occasion we would stop in at the hotel too but that was closed for a few years and may still be closed. Also used to board with people within 100 yards of that intersection...beautiful area.
