has any one had one threaded for a silencer? I have a .358 that has been cut to 18", been thinking of having it done, will give to my grandson (the one I have gotten him gung ho for 99's) and getting him to do the paper work for the silencer. Ken

Seen some older ones threaded for Maxim suppressors. Only seen a couple newer ones modified for new suppressors.
“ The Savage 99 Pocket Reference”. All models and variations of 1895’s, 1899’s and 99’s covered. Also dates, checkering, engraving.. Find at www.savagelevers.com

I have one. An 1899 t/d in 250 that was made in 1919 and is threaded with the cap. Going to try a suppressor on it when paperwork gets back. Need to get one of those special scope mounts for it, as it's not d/t for scope.

Good luck. A can ought to take some of the bite off it with such a short barrel.
Sort of an entirely different ballpark, but I shot my 16" barreled Ruger 300BO with a friend's can screwed on it one time, and it did make a significant difference. It took most of the crack off the report, sound was pretty much just a loud pop.

Yeah, but then you walk around with a big ugly can hanging off the end of the rifle....

Yeah, but then you walk around with a big ugly can hanging off the end of the rifle.... That's true. I'm not a big fan myself, but they do work. I doubt I'd ever own one, unless I was shooting somewhere that required them.
