Tough tracking job. I got caught in the rain and lost the trail. It was too warm to let him overnight, so I called my brother and nephews for help. Found him about 10:00 and got him on ice by midnight. Very thankful for family.

Nice buck, nice family and nice job staying with it until you found him! That’s the work of a true sportsman and a great hunter. 👍

Nice work, and good on you for sticking to the tracking job. Many would have given it up.

WV just legalized tracking dogs. Might take a while for the “market” to develop, but it’s a beginning.

What you see is the exit. Th deer was quartering away and the shot entered at about the last rib. It crossed about 200 yards of open clover hayfield and went into a thick swamp bottom of briars and tall goldenrod. After I shot, he got mixed up in a bunch of deer. Since he didn’t drop in sight, I gave him a little time and got my light. I made the first hundred yards pretty good but then it started raining. I couldn’t find blood and my glasses kept fogging up. So, I called for help. With the four of us we only found one more little drop of blood about 10 yards from where I lost it. A couple of us walked the edge of the thick stuff but didn’t find blood. So, we went into the swamp and by Gods grace, my brother found him in a patch of hawthorn.
