Yep black powder will explode but smokeless will not.

Unless contained in a metal container.

Hard to believe that 6 lbs of smokeless did that to that house.

Wonder what the rest of the story is.

Will it ever come out.

Six pounds of powder wouldn't blow up a house. You need flammable gas to do that. Around here we have a couple of houses blow up every year from people extracting the active ingredients from marijuana. They use butane for the extraction and apparently aren't all that good at containing it.

Or it could be a garden variety gas leak.

This has nothing to do with making ammunition. Pay attention!

It could have just as easily happened while an occupant was eating mashed potatoes. Reloading might have been the ignition, but likely something else actually exploded.

BS. Smokeless is a flammable, not an explosive.

Six pounds of Bullseye contained in a hunk of four inch Schedule 80 steel pipe with a cannon fuse hanging out the end.........maybe????????

Or just an old fashioned cast steel pressure canner????????

HCFR crews say the homeowner was actively reloading small arms ammunition inside the house when the explosion happened.

He reported there were six pounds or more of smokeless powder in the immediate area. The residence was turned over to the homeowners and is considered a total loss.

Pictures are interesting.
The angles are changed, that's to be expected.
But why show them taken at different times?

There is a hole in the house in the first one.
The second has the entire back of the house missing with
no roof pieces that would show if it simply collapsed.
No equipment in the shot that explain demo in progress.

Looking again, it does look like it collapsed.

Likely culprit, or vaporized gasoline. When I was a city firefighter back in the 70s we were told that 1 gallon of gasoline could explode a medium size house. Most likely propane or NG in this case. I have serious doubts gun powder caused this.

Though I have wondered what would be the result of a thief using a grinder or torch to open a gun safe in which powder was stored. Any explosives experts have an idea?

Could be the beginning of a media campaign designed to get the public behind a "ban reloading" campaign. For the chilruns, ya see.

I don't believe it for a minute!!!!

Since smokeless powder doesn't 'splode when in its original shipping and storage containers or outside a pressure vessel, I muh gonna call horseschitt on this one.

Marijuana folks use butane to process thc.
Butane then has to be cooked off of the concentrate.
Several houses have lifted off foundations and disassembled in the last few years.
Much more common than reloading explosions.

Wouldn’t surprise me. I’m still betting Meth lab.
