They are fine if you have a very limited amount to grind.

VERY limited.

I nearly killed my wifes mixer before I got a dedicated grinder.

I did kill our kitchen aid. Then I killed a Cabelas grinder.

Now I've got a 1 hp. Only done one deer and about 30 geese in it. Hoping it's gonna last.

It’ll work. For any volume you’ll soon want to get a dedicated grinder.

Yup.

I have the Kitchen Aid attachment for grinding meat, it works, but is extremely slow, you wouldn't want to do any kind of volume with it.

For about the same price you can buy a dedicated meat grinder from Harbor Freight. I was a bit leery at first but after reading the reviews all of which were positive, bought one. It's about 5 times as fast as the Kitchen Aid attachment and works to perfection, we've had it for several years now and not a single problem. I bought one for my favorite ladys son and he grinds a helluva lot of beef with his, and no problems either.

Friend from work burned his out grinding an elk. Kitchenaid replaced it under warranty and he got a dedicated grinder.

I’ve ground no less than 8 deer, 6 caribou, one bull moose, 4 elk, and some pork with ours. I replaced the blade with some hizoot ice quenched Swedish steel model that didn’t fit until I operated on it a little in the Bridgeport. We lost the original blade was the impetus for that maneuver.

Anyway, it’s slow but does a good job and I’m not running a commercial operation. I also trim ALL the connective tissues off before the meat goes in the grinder.

I think this year I may go to a dedicated 1hp grinder since the old mixer does seem a little tired, but I wouldn’t be afraid to buy and use one if you’re using it in a limited capacity.

Might depend on the mixer itself.
We have the big mixer with a bowl lifter.
800 watts?

It doesn't notice the grinder.
Some of Wal-Mart's are only 300watts.
They might be stressed.

I have ground several deer, no issues. Not even warm.

But.
The throat on the grinder is about 1".
So you will be cutting everything into little strips.

I agree with what was said about the Kitchen Aid. Used it for years until the plastic cracked. $120 grinder works at least 5 times better.

Certainly not for a whole elk or deer, but we use ours to grind some more than chewy elk steaks that are in the freezer. .Usually 2-3 pounds at a time for chili, sloppy joes, spaghetti etc.Works fine.

I also have a Northern Tool $120 grinder.Probably about the same as Harbor Freight's '. It is maybe 25-years old plus. I have probably down several dozen elk, deer, and antelope with it, and it still is going strong. It will keep one person going as busy as they want. However, I have heard that the newer ones have plastic gears instead of steel,. Still, you can buy a lifetime supply of those $120 ones for the cost of one Cabelas or Lem grinders.

I ground up a lot of dead animals with one before I broke down and bought a Cabelas machine.

Might be considered slow, but I've used the heck out of the grinder on my wife's mixer. Many a deer, pronghorn, and a few elk and pigs have went through it. Works well enough for me. I like it's not nearly as loud as the "real" grinders I've been around.

I used one once. Good grief its slow. Thankful for my LEM grinder. Grinds faster than I can stuff. No pink slim or having to trim all the sinue. One of the best investments I have made over the decades. I started with my great grandmothers hand crank number 8 grinder. She called it a chopper. Even if the meat was cold
It was a real chore to get a good result. So the mixer and grinder attachment my buddy had seemed like a step up. It wasn't much of a step up.

The grinder on wife's Kitchen Aide works well enough... We do not hurry it.
Of course the meat is ground thru the larger hole 'grind plate' first... then the smaller hole plate.
Yes i cut off connective tissue when is obvious. And i figured out a way to sharpen that 4-edged rotating cutting blade.

We dont grind huge amounts. Back in the day i did some beef grinding to make hamburger patties in a busy restaurant so that experience helps me a little

I'm told Kitchen Aid is top of the line.
