Pros: No need to ship and you walk out with $$ in hand. Cons: Getting raped on what they're willing to give.

You're gonna take it in the shorts on price. They have to make a profit so they will pay you less than what you could sell elsewhere.

The title says it all. Have you done it or know someone who has? If you just don't want to mess with selling them yourself, then find a local dealer that will sell them for you on consignment. It'll still cost you some money, but you wouldn't lose anywhere near as much as selling them outright to Cabela's. Where are you located?

Watch Pawn Stars then apply the beating they give their customers to what Cabela's is going to do to you.

With them and Scheels - you get 70% off of what the blue book is at best.. so if it’s worth a lot, it’s not worth doing.
Pistols - some people just want a solid trail so they do it.

Cabela's policy is to pay around 2/3, 66%, of what they claim that they can sell the firearm for at retail. The operative word there is "claim". Once they own your firearm, they can price it any way they want to and aren't tied in any way to the 1/3 mark up that they based their payment to you on. Honest and truthful? You decide.
I've sold some firearms to them when I wanted to dump something that I didn't have much money in, but I'd never sell them a good firearm and expect to get a fair price for it.

You will be better off selling at a pawnshop Your best chance at a good price is a consignment sell at a local gunshop, may take a little longer but might be worth the wait, if the shop wants to put it on gunbroker or something like that the cost of selling will be his

What others have said is spot on. There are many auction houses out there that will take a flat 15% on the sale. Sportsman's Legacy is a good place to start. They have a website.
A good principle to guide me through life: “This is all I have come to expect, standard lackluster performance. Trust nothing, believe no one and realize it will only get worse…”

Just yesterday I traded 3 long guns to sheels. On Two I got what I bought them for retail and one I got $150 more than I paid retail. I was happy

The title says it all. Have you done it or know someone who has? Haven't sold them anything but have gotten a few remarkable deals. There is a store close by that I use to drop into every few weeks. I did find a 90% all original 1950s Marlin 39A Mountie for less than 175.00 just before the BPS buy out and a 87% all original 1930s Winchester 62 .22 Short only gallery gun for a few dollars more than 200.00 after the BPS acquisition. In order for me to make those two purchases, the company buyer(s) probably paid out 100.00 or less for each rifle both of which are worth considerably more, much more. The point? Know what the gun is worth before agreeing to sell to Cabela's/BPS so you are aware of what you are leaving on on the table for the convenience. That said, I admit that I am very appreciative of the naive sellers' naivete.

It’s easy to sell guns on this site, and get close to real value, less maybe some ffl transfer fees and shipping. Those fees and shipping can be avoided or maybe priced into the sale. I would never sell to cabelas. Tried to do so, but walked away from the low ball offer. However, I have negotiated for used guns at cabelas ( pre BP) and had some good results.
