Any experience with Hammer bullets.

Performance....hand loading ?

I have loaded the 90g .257 in my Kimber .257 Roberts and the 97g in a 6.5 Grendel. The .257 Roberts went from frustration to admiration when groups went from 1.5"or much more to 1" or less. The Grendel is in a Howa Mini action and it shoots everything well including these. I haven't used them on game yet though.

I do. I did initial testing in my 260 rem a few yrs ago using the 117 grain sledgehammer line. Shot 3 or 4 deer with it, they died quickly. None made it more than 30 or 40 yards. I was impresses with the lack of bloodshot meat.

Load work up is pretty easy and straight forward. With the afore-mentioned gun, I worked up a load the shot 11\16 at 100 yards. Was not fast, only 2700 fps, but I hunt in the woods where a long shot is 75 yards.

Was impressed enough that I started switching some other guns over to hammers. I have a 358 win shooting the 200 grain hammers under TAC powder for 2640 fps and 1 1\4 inch at 100 yards. I also got some 140 grain Absolute Hammers and ran the in a 280 AI and got them to 3380 fps. If you look over on long range hunting there are 2 documents, 1 with Absolute hammer data and 1 with hammer hunters.

With the price of other bullets creeping up there is no longer as much difference, esp in a line like Nosler partitions. And in my opinion they are a step above partitions.

I personally reccomend you try them. People wrongfully compare them to Barnes but they are fairly different in that the from part is designed to break away and do more damage. Somewhere there is a video comparing the Nosler Accubond with the Hammers in ballistic gel. Impressive stuff!

Also, in my opinion their biggest competitor would be cutting edge. I spoke with some of theirpeople at the sportsmans show inHarrisburg and they were flat outrudeand demeaning when I asked about a particular bullet. Steve at Hammer knows a thing about customer service, aleays polite and ready to help. For that reason alone I will never shoot a cutting edge bullet

I’ve been using a few of them. Was hoping to use the 220’s in my Whelen this year. They shoot great with very little messing around.

No idea on game yet.

Being longer and all copper is their BC alot higher than say a 150 gr Nosler Ballistic tip or a Hornady SST ?

Go to both sites and look it up. You will find the info you are looking for.

Nosler 30 cal 150 gr. BT is about 430 something.....

I'm shooting 220 Hammer Hunters in my 35 Whelen, which is an 1885 Highwall with 28" barrel. With 64 grains of Power Pro Varmint I'm getting an average of 2911 FPS with less than 1/2 MOA accuracy

You have a common but wrong idea about BC. The two components of BC are bullet shape and sectional density. The lower sectional density of monolithic copper or copper alloy bullets means they have to be MUCH longer than lead-cored bullets to just match the lead-core's BC.

I've hand loaded since the late 1970s I started shooting Speer Grand Slams shot them a few years then went to Nosler Partitions then when the Nosler Solid base came out I shot them a while and after the Nosler Ballistic Tip came out I shot them and a mixture of Partitions and still do....when the Barnes solid bullets came out I never tried them so I'm totally in the dark when it comes to solid bullets.

I've used them in a 25-06 for a while now.

Very easy to work up a load. I run them about as fast as I can. Nowhere near the meat loss on pigs, deer or bear as a bonded or cup and core. If impact velocity is at or above 2600 fps, it's drt every time. If below, they may wander off some but I've always had complete pass throughs from the base. I haven't shot anything lengthwise yet. No whitetails or medium sized hogs (150-250) have gone more than 50 yards or so when hit with lower impact velocity. They shoot great but that rifle shoots pretty much anything into .5 moa.

75 grain hunters running 3700fps is the one's I've settled on. I have some 67 grainers I managed to push to 3870ish just to see how fast I could get them going. I can't tell any difference in terminal performance but I haven't shot anything longways yet. I get 2600 fps impact velocity out to 350 yards with the heavier ones.

I guess I am not seeing what they do that the TSX or TTSX doesn't.

I started researching these bullets and I have a question. Do these bullets need to be crimped? If so have anyone shot them without crimping?

I don't crimp them

They are available and TSX & TTSX are not.

I'm going to try them in the .243 win (70HH) the 7x57 (143HH) and test them in a 338 RCM (186, 205) There is no FCD for the RCM, so can't crimp, but have one for the 243 & 7mm. I like crimping, I'm one of those that feel the monos do very well with them, bullet pull, etc.

I don't crimp mine and see no reason to crimp them. Good neck tension is adequate IMHO
