I "think" this one was made for the 28 Nosler (?) Has anyone used them/tested them from a 7x57 , 7mm08, .280 or so? I was wondering if they are soft enough to work well at lower speeds, i.e 2600fps or so?

Nosler 160BT or Hornady 162 BTsp...162 SST.....in a 7x57 or 7mm08...which is more likely to open faster on deer/hogs and/or/be more likely to penetrate well on elk? ? Or is it a wash? Curious is all. A friend on another forum said he tested it from a 280AI on water jugs * the Nosler 160BT) and it penetrated 5 jugs, weight 101gr recovered. I don't know much about the 160ish Hornady in anything, I always "felt" like the ILSP were tougher than the SST, but then again, I have only shot one critter with the 139SST/7mm08, 200yd on an Exotic ram. It fragmented against the far ribcage.

I’d put my money on the Nosler myself Jim. The Ballistic Tips haven’t ever done anything but great stuff for me. One of the toughest and stuff best expanding bullets, for a plain old cup and core.

In the smaller 7mm cartridges I reckon the 150gn Ballistic Tip would do all you want. At those velocities it is very tough and I can't see what an extra 10 grains of weight would achieve except slow the bullet down some.

There is a reason they were made. Do you think they will shoot better than the A/B?

I know, I have taken game with less bullet weight in a 7mm and others have too.

Time will tell.

Haven't played with the 160 grain Ballistic Tip yet but of the other two I would pick the 150 grain Ballistic Tip over them if I had to use one of them for elk.

That was Mark Claiborne's go to bullet in the 7mm Rem Mag iirc
