I am going to SA next year for plains game and would like to use my 6 Creedmoor I know larger is usually better but I really like this gun. animals to be take are: Bushbuck, Warthog, Impala, Jackal, and the largest is the Gemsbuck. I will be shooting premium Hammer Hunter bullets and want to keep all shots within 200 yards. now I ask you much more experienced hunters of Africa to think about this. I do have a 6.5-284 and a 30.06 I could use but I just like my 6 Creedmoor. I do have a 458 that I could load with 350 grain bullets but that is over kill but would be fun. thanks for all comments and consideration.

Take 2 calibers / cartridges. If you have problems with the 6mm you can always step up to another.
The shot I'll likely always remember was on my first trip with my first use of the H&H hunting. Family of warthogs come crossing the dirt road 200 yards ahead. The PH glassing says the last one is a shooter and to get ready. I drop to my knee and put a 270 gr. SAF right on the shoulder and that tough little bugger still goes almost 50 yards before piling up. Not what I was expecting.
Just about everything else dropped from either the H&H or the 30-06. But not that Warthog...
It's you and the bullet, and all the rest is secondary.

For the circumstances you describe, your 6 CM will work provided you do two things: 1. Be very disciplined about takings shot. Precise placement is mandatory. 2. I would use a TTSX or ETip. Know nothing about terminal performance of the bullet you mentioned. I think the Nosler partition in the 95-100 range would work also.
Have fun.

PS. There is an incredible amount of pure BS and speculation commonly found on 24 CF. Look for experience and judgement. Also consider that it is rare for anyone to actually respond to your questions.

A good friend's wide decided to start hunting a few years ago. He bought her a .243 Winchester (which gets just about identical ballistics as the 6mm Creedmoor) and had her practice a lot, but instead of starting on whitetails in West Virginia, where they live, he took her on a plains game safari in South Africa. She took impala, gemsbok and blue wildebeest with one shot each. The bullet was not the latest and greatest monolithic, but the 85-grain Nosler Partition.

Mule Deer I am guessing that the 95 BT would work but I don’t have any experience with. What say you? R
Actually in 6mm the Nosler lead core bullets, either 95 BT or Ptn may out perform the monos.

I have only used the 95 Ballistic Tip on deer-sized game, where it works very well. But the guy who designed it before he retired as Nosler's bullet designer, Gail Root, designed that specific bullet to be able to penetrate elk, because he's an avid elk hunter who's not fond of recoil. Gail has taken several big bulls with the 95 BT.

thanks for the answers, I decided to use my 30.06 or 6.5-284 depending on which one shoots Hammer Bullets the best, they are putting this trip together. so far the 6.5 is shooting 1/2 groups in a 12 mph wind tomorrow will try the 06

Hydehunter - I would highly recommend you contact the PH where you will be hunting to confirm a caliber smaller than 7mm is legal in the Province you'll be hunting in. While RSA does have a national hunting "ordnance" that specifies minimum caliber or minimum muzzle energy for particular species, each of the 9 provinces are able to have their own "ordinances" and "proclamations". https://phasa.co.za/2018/05/15/provincial-ordinances/Also, keep in mind that some regulations may or may not apply to "local landowners" or local RSA biltong hunting but DO apply to foreign hunters.

The problem with a 6mm is you might encounter something biggerr than you thought. In 2006 I hunted in RSA. We encountered some Eland and I decided (unsuccessfully) to take one. I would not like to hunt Eland with a 6mm.
I also could have taken a White Rhino and/or a giraffe but the trophy fees were too steep for me.
Don't blame me. I voted for Trump.
Democrats would burn this country to the ground, if they could rule over the ashes.
