Hey Kid, weren't you one of the gunsmiths on the Alaskan gun store TV show? You look familiar.

I've had good luck with hornady 350 FP and 60 grains of Varget. Nice stiff load that has shot really well out of my guide gun.

If you were the gunsmith on WWG I'd like to know if you can explain what went wrong with Ken? I follow him on FB and he seems to have turned into some drug hippie living in Thailand or some weird [bleep]

Nice 1886 EL.
We took one of those to Africa along with my 1886 45-90 and they both did well ( killed everything we shot at).
A Nosler 300 grain PP took this leopard and the big stuff had to settle for NF and Punch bullets. smile

I have a good number of molds and loads for .45/70, but one of my favorite deer killers is my 340 grain Lee mold. That mold casts slightly undersize at .457, so to "fix" it, I cast first with a fairly soft alloy , at about 8 to 10BHN, I then paper patch it up to the crimp groove with 2 wraps of tracing paper. After it's dry, I trim the tails, apply just a smidge of case lube to paper and size to .460. I use enough RL7 to push it about 1950 fps. Expansion is pretty notable, even on thin skinned white tail deer. I use these in 2 Marlin rifles and have used them in a Browning B78..

Not my first choice, but sounds dialed in to me.

Don't ask me about my military service or heroic acts...most of it is untrue.

Pronoun: Yes, SIR !
