I do a lot of downloading in rifle cartridges, particularly the 223., using shotgun or pistol powder.

a simple way to never double charge, is once you pour the powder into the case, seat the bullet immediately.

yeah, its one at a time, but it prevents a double charge. I've been doing this for 15 years plus now, on ALL of my reloading...
rifle or pistol.

That's what I did for the first rounds I made with unique, and I'm sticking to it - charge the case, it stays in my left hand, and doesn't leave until the bullet is being seated.

If 44 Russian cases or Trailboss becomes available I'll give them a try.

I agree it's hard to miss but when will anyone load anywhere near 14gr of Unique in a 44 Spec case?

OP loads 7.0 gr, so 14 gr is the double charge.

Visually, 14.0 gr will look very different in the loading block alongside all the rest loaded to 7.0 gr.

Thanks for the explanation. That makes perfect sense to me now.

I charge every case in the loading block, then look very carefully down into each case at the powder charge before loading any bullets. Works for me and I load a lot of Unique or Universal for mild loads in 41 mag and 44 mag cases.
