Biden didn't make this choice by himself. A committee designated by law chooses at least 3 candidates and the president has to choose from that list. He can request more candidates if he chooses. I'm sure he can find a way to 'recommend' a candidate to the committee. Here's a list of who's on that committee. You might notice a preponderance of liberals, like all of them except the 2 minority leaders.
It's a 15 year appointment so if confirmed, we'll have her no matter who gets elected next.

Luckily they were weak parents, so as they die out the likelihood that we will be able to extricate ourselves from this situation increases.
