Or, is there a longer version? Thid is an M8. Can't remember a darn thing since blocking them out after the webinar. LOL

Looking to mount something simple on a very long action rifle with little available mount options. I have 1" and 30mm mounts for it but zero fore/aft leeway. Other known long options, lower power set and forget. BTW, a 6x42 fits pretty good with little leeway...

With approximately 6 1/2" of mounting space I would say it is long enough.

Your guess is well intended no doubt, but, that's not the question. There's a specific 4X Leupold we've referred to as the long tube version I seek to identify.

I’ve notice different variations in the length of the M8-4x 28mm scopes over the span of the production run. My M8 is a pre 1974 serial number, and focused for me is 12” overall length and 7” of tube mounting space between the bells. So yes, there could be a longer version to the one you have.

The lengths of most Leupold scopes were not always the same within a model over the years. I don't know the reason why but imagine that they modified individual tubes both front and rear to use a "length " that was in common useage at the time. This overall length obviously varied by eyepiece adjustment however In the case of the 4x28mm (both M7 and M8), I have found them to range from about 11 7/16" to just over 12" when nominally set. The longer length scopes seem to generally be earlier production. I might add that these long scopes were almost perfectly suited for mounting on any receiver. This is true not only for the front ring clearance to the front bell given the longer lengths discussed here but whenever I've mounted the 28mm version, it sits slightly forward of a similarly mounted 33mm when set for optimum viewing. This implies a slightly longer eye-relief and provides greater mounting latitude. In short, the 4X28mm scopes can be a savior over the 4X33mm when things get tight. Good luck...

I have two 4x28mm scopes. One is 11 3/4" long and the other is 12". The 4x28mm scopes are longer than the 4x33mm M8s. BTW, both of my 28mm scopes have their obj bells turned out more.

Seems like universal acceptance of the 4x28s as THE longtube Leupolds I seek... I'll mount it up

Thanks guys...
