My buddy was a Supply-Side Economist with a Ph.D. and fought for his thesis back in the '50s. This made him about as old-school Conservative as you get. His assessment was that Powell was not a Liberal. Rather, he was a rank opportunist and rolled whichever way got him the most juice. He said most of D.C. was filled with these critters. Powell was just better at playing the game. Thank you for sharing this very insightful information. It is very interesting getting this from someone who had direct experience with Powell!
