1985 or ‘86 vintage I believe, unfired. I know handgun prices have fluctuated wildly lately and have no idea what this may be worth now. .357 magnum $1500?

581s were blued or nickeled, the 681 should be stainless, not nickeled. Around here, $1100 would be a stretch, the locals favor adjustable sights.
You can roll a turd in peanuts, dip it in chocolate, and it still ain't no damn Baby Ruth.

My mistake, it’s stainless. The owner died shortly after purchase and it just sat in storage until the next inherited owner died and the family found the gun.

And never lose a dime on resale though few are resold.

I’m not really a handgun person so I’ll check out the S&W forum, thanks all.

There are two forums with similar names. https://www.smithandwessonforums.com does not allow firearm ads http://smith-wessonforum.com does allow firearm ads subject to several specific rules
Gunnery, gunnery, gunnery. Hit the target, all else is twaddle!

Not a real common revolver mostly because demand for fixed sighted revolvers was way down back then. You should have an "M" stamped on the frame under the crane from the recall they had on those. If it doesn't have the "M" then it didn't go in for the recall...That may actually be more attractive to some collector...or not.
