Hey guys, whether in a 7x57 (7mm Mauser) or .243 win, which case has the greatest powder capacity? Lapua, Remington, Noram? I have both in factory loads but plan on reloading them, or course. Any ideas?

I don’t know honestly Jim, but I’d guess the Norma has the most capacity.

That's what I kinda figured. I'm hesitant to pull the bullets on either to check, more trigger time for me! ha Say, did you get your package from me yet?

I’ve got some Norma 7x57R in the garage. Want me to go measure? If so, how would I do that?

I also have some random 8x57 Remington (don’t own an 8x57) that I can neck down to 7mm if you would like.

Thanks Pard, I'm not sure but I would think the rim of your 7x57R would add a bit of weight. I'm also not sure of the 8x57 neck down. When comparing case capacity, I usually just weigh them first, and find the ones that are the heaviest & the lightest. After I size them, primer in, I fill to the case mouth with a fine ball powder and weight the charges of the two. Thats close enough for my uses. I have found some cases that are heavier, yet still close in capacity, depends on how the inside of the case head is made, etc. I am of the personal belief that if one does not have a :bonafide 1/4-1/2" 5 shot grouper rifle, some experiments are pointless. I do, however, stick with loads for one brand of brass. I keep them seperate, usually with a different bullet/purpose. I make good notes and just rezero for them if used for a hunt. Thank you sir!

I was thinking you wanted to measure capacity. No worries. Let me know if you change your mind. I have 7mm-08 in Nosler, Lapua, Winchester, Remington and Norma. You might be able to make some assumptions on the 243 based on those.
