I know where there is an unfired Model 673 in 6.5 Remington Magnum, the "Guide Gun", as it was sometimes referred to. The price is what I would call fair, and the rifle is in new condition. The one thing that has kept me from buying it is that I know I would like to shoot it, and both ammo and brass for reloading is as scare as hens teeth, and very expensive if you can find them. Also, even if I did come up with some ammo, I'm not so sure that I'd be all that excited about the 6.5 Mag.

So, my question is this........given the fact that this model has that ribbed barrel, I'm going to assume that it would be very hard to rechamber or rebarrel it to any other cartridge that would work with a magnum face bolt? I say that on the assumption that it would be hard to work with a ribbed barrel if it had to be set back any.

Pardon me if this is silly question, but I have no prior experience with either this model rifle, the 6.5 Mag cartridge, or a rifle with a ribbed barrel.

Graf and sons has 6.5 rem. Brass for $40 for 20.

That’s a start. I have the 350 rem love it. Always wanted a 6.5. Couldn’t find one so I bought a 264 win.

I would buy the rifle, and leave it as it is.

There are better and cheaper ways to get whatever you’d want to turn this into, so if it’s not exactly what you want, move on. Lots of 6.5 PRCs are available, which is an easier path to similar performance and up-to-date barrel twist rates. Leave this one as is for the collectors and 6.5 RM fans.

I've pretty much reached that conclusion. Still, the 673 is a really cool looking rifle. Just wish it had been a 308.

What is the twist on the 673? Might not be what you’re looking for to maximize the bore unless you just dig the rifle then go for it

Remington only loaded 100 and 120 grain bullets in their factory loads, probably because they ran into COAL issues with heavier/longer bullets in the SA magazine.

The 673 action is the same as the 7 isn't it?

The action is the same as a model 7 action. It's a cinch to pull the barrel; just like any other barrel. You are basically looking at a Model 7 action, mag box, and stock...with a funky barrel attached.

You will probably have to handload for it but otherwise it's a pretty practical rifle as is. Basically equivalent to a 35 Whelen.

I have the exact gun. Shoots well. 10 shot string into 2 inches at 300 yards.120 Sierra pro hunter. The action is really to short for the 140 grainers but single fed I did get a 3/4 group at 200 yards. I removed the rib to try it and it didn’t shoot as well. Edk

6.5 Rem Brass isn’t hard to form out of just about any magnum case.
6.5 bullets are plentiful.
It’s slightly larger capacity case than the 30-06, I believe. So you’d be getting approximate power of a 6.5-06 in a handy carbine.
If you’re like me, you might enjoy having a rifle that no one else will have at deer camp.
If you shoot it and don’t like it, you could likely get your money back.

You can own that one. It's still sitting there in the rack at that store. I imagine that it could be had for somewhere between $850-900 out the door. It's unfired, so that's not a bad price.

I always wanted one, probably ain’t happening this late in the game, got Creeds, 264’s, 6.5-06, 26 Nosler to load for. I like the way they look.

Apparently like a lot of others, I've always wanted one too. Probably for the cool factor.

The 6.5 Rem Mag is a fine cartridge and the Model 673 is a great gun. If you get it don't change a thing and I have some brass if you need some.

Y'all need to be telling me bad things about this rifle so I'll quit being tempted to go out and buy it......lol.

If in a shop here and at a good price I'd just have to buy it. A bit on the heavy side but could get use to it.
