I picked up a few boxes at the gun show. I don’t recall seeing any with the extra ring. Any idea what the other ring is supposed to be for??
I’m sure they’ll still knock a hole in a critter. smile

I’ll load some for 30-06 and drill some hog media here soon. See how they shake out.

Just a 180 Interlock. BTSP variety which I believe was well after the Spire Point.

Early version. I say use em like a Partition.

Interlock was out in late '70s/early 80s. Not sure when they started labeling boxes as such.

The 165's and 180's like that I had were pre interlock. I'll bet they make pork as good as any. I've got a box of 50 loads right now with h4350,cci 200, gi brass, and 180 gr round nose pre interlock hornadies ready for deer hunting this fall

They had that ring until the mid 2000’s IIRC. Always shot well and had good terminal performance for me. I was alarmed when the ring went away, but they still perform well.

I have some pre-interlocks that also have the ring as well. They kill stuff just as good as the interlocks.

If it’s an inner lock bullet, the inner lock ring is lower in the jacket, probably somewhere between the cannelure and the boat tail and it’s completely internal, i.e. you cant see it from just looking at the bullet. I believe that the forward ring is for ID of a 180 grain bullet. Maybe not but I think that’s what it’s for; it’s not the inner lock.
Remington did the same thing to differentiate between the 100 grain 243 Corlokts and the 80 grain soft points.

Wasn't the purpose of the extra ring so that a person could tell the difference between 180 and 165 grain bullets when loaded? I don't remember the 165's having the extra ring.
