I have some GI woodland a retired military guy gave me in the '80s.. I have no problem with it. The deer get dead just as easy.

i was the OD green fatigues area. lovely stuff. the 100% cotton stuff was impossible to keep smooth. wrinkled if you looked at it. the poly blend stuff was better. dickies in green,

I still have some woodland camo. It's still pressed and starched. I guess I'm just a bit too much attached to it to let it go. They are right next to my Nomex from when I was on flight status. A guy never knows when he will need it all again so I still have them. All of my olive drab fatigues are long gone. I had some of the desert tan ones but the Army took all but one set back. I have some 511 stuff I got when I worked for Dyncorp hanging in the closet too, along with a blue dress uniform from my days as a LEO. It seems uniforms have been a constant in my adult life.

We had them old sateen cotton OD utilities that you starched up like a board up until like 1977. I found an old one other day that I had given the boys to wear in the woods. Looked at the size. 14 x 33!!!!! Damn I was a tiny little punk in boot camp.

Here's some of the stuff I got in boot camp, post sateen, but pre woodland.

Only times ive had small herd of deer, both WT and Mulies, practically run over me when i was walking through fairly open country and i finally realized, WTF, they were coming by me and I was astonished they either didn't see me or recognize i was a threat was when i was wearing this.

Once i was headed back to my truck after killing a big muley buck and looked up to see a flock of mule deer 200 yds out to my right and heading to pass in front of me in open high grass prairie with small scattered mesquite. I paid them no attention and kept walking toward the truck. A minute later is i see movement out of the corner of my eye and they were still headed just ahead of me and were only about 50 yards away. I said dayom, this stuff works. Finally seeing me they would bound away a bit and stop and look. Freaking unreal experience.

July of '78, I spent just up the road from you, woodie - Ft Irwin.

Ripstip holds heat like a plastic trash bag. My small unit was the testing grounds for several formulations of ripstop woodland in the jungles of central and south America and some of them would rot right off of ya. When the finished product came out for issue, we all chose the heavy weight because they were cooler in hot weather and durable. And, the dang ripstop would constantly tear and get holes.

Our Air Force unit was the last to wear slant pocket greens with the good old zipper in the fly.

Desert Tiger is the best camouflage in any environment, the colors fade out and leave hardly a human outline. Deep jungle best camo ain’t even camo, its the OD mechanic’s jump suit, it vanishes.

ASAT is a piss poor camo, too bright.

For "color-blind" animals, that's about perfect High contrast, large pattern, no straight edges. I have a grey and black striped hoodie that is almost as good, - the stripes are about 2" wide, but the straight edges detract somewhat. Still, with a straight pole environment or rock for backdrop, it disappears, even to human color perception.

I like that ASAT and it really works well especially
where I've hunted at.
My only problem with it is the pinheads that
shoot at what they can't identify since most of
the ASAT pattern is brown on a tan background.
I've had the same problem with brown canvas
work pants and coveralls. I had a distant relative
scope me because he said my white neck between
my cammo shirt and my hairline looked like a
deer tail from the back.
I wouldn't have any worries if I could know for sure
nobody else was around. But then there's the
ones that make the " sound shots " and the
"hail mary " shots
