I have been looking for some .243 Win ammo. Not much to be found but there seems to be a lot of 6mm CM in factory ammo in the shelves.

What gun manufacturers are making a 6CM? How do you like yours?

It’s basically a .243 DR (Done Right), the 6mm equivalent of the .260/6.5 YKW (You Know What) situation. Optimized case design and standard twists that allow longer bullets in SAs. Less trimming and maybe better case life.

No real reason to switch if you’re happy shooting 100gr bullets in a .243, or have one of the few made with fast-twist barrels like some Rugers were (are?) except maybe being able to find ammo. I see more rifles available all the time. I managed to snaffle a Fieldcraft before they ran out. Sold my fast-twist .243 Number 1V to help pay for it. Later, I bought another .243 because it was a good deal and it’s still just as useful as ever. If limited to one, I’d go CM.

Winchester makes the 1885, Browning has XBolts, Ruger has a bunch, Howa made some. Saw some Lapua brass today.

I like my FC pretty well, but I’d like it as a 7” twist .243 with a 3” magazine too.

It's too bad other gunmakers [ TIKKA ] couldn't see fit to make rifles like that.

Howa is making them. Some years back they had the barreled action for something like $259.

There's very little differents, between the 6mm cm and a fast twist .243, when it comes to shooting and hunting, nothing you shoot will know the differents. Rio7

I've got one of them and it is a gem in my book. Put it into a McMillan. It is a stout little rifle and shoots darned well. I also have a couple 243's as well. As Pappy said, a 7-8 twist 243 would've done the same work for me. But it works nice and ADG brass just keeps going and going.





I have since put a 3x9 SS on it. Great little utility rifle.

I have a Nosler M48 in 6 Creed. Very accurate. It was a PTA getting Nosler to get it right though.

I got one of those and put it in a Wby stock, but sold it unfired when I realized three .24 cal rifles were maybe just a bit much for an old fat man.

Funny, but the guy I sold it to is literally old enough to be my father(!), if you can imagine that. He was a real horse-trader though!

I wished I’d gotten a couple of them at that price. I’m pretty sure I got one of the last ones though. It was a great deal. The rifle is a gem. Trigger needs a little addressing but it’s a solid package for me. It’s a 7.5 twist and has shot 55 NBTs and 105 HPBTs into small groups.

It is not a high end gun by any means but the Ruger Predator I had shot crazy good with factory ammo.

Nice rifle! What McM stock is that? Do they have Howa inlet or just Rem 700 clone? Any fitment issues?

Mine is a Christensen Arms MPR converted to a McMillan Game Scout, steel barrel. It's for sale BTW

It was a Howa inlet. I believe this is the Sako Hunter. No problems at all with fitment. Nice stock, good support on the face.

I had one build on a plain jane 700 with JC bbl in a Grayboe. Haven't tried handloads yet, but these factory load seem to work well.

I wore out two barrels in my dakota 243 and was satisfied with the cartridge but did find the 243 touchy for reloading......

When Fieldcraft came out with the 6CM, I bought one and was very happy with the results.....amazed would be a better term.
I found the 6CM to be much friendlier to load for and promptly went out and killed a nice wolf with it.Perfect on caribou also.

Then I got the bug for a suppressor so I bought the threaded Fieldcraft......another winner!

Then Sportsmans Warehouse had a sale on the Ruger Precision in 6CM so now I have three 6CMs but the Ruger doesn't do much for me
as I find it heavy and cumbersome especially compared to a Fieldcraft......not in the same league but does shoot quite well.

I recently got 1K 108 ELD M so now I need to find Pappy's Lapua brass.

When Sig produces their Cross model in 6CM, there will be one in my truck.

I have the RPR and, with a Timney trigger, is a fun steel shooting sob, but it isn't "practical" at all.

I think it was last year that Brownells has the barrels Howa actions at the $259 price. I saw it posted on here and then when I went to buy one, they were gone. Since then, I have only seen Ruger American Predators in them. I would like to pick one up, but really would of liked the Howa better.
