Nice buck and I love the 1886. Congrats
I may not be smart but I can lift heavy objects
I have a shotgun so I have no need for a 30-06.....

I used a bullet I cast from a RCBS mould 45-405-FN, with my mix they end up about 417 grains. Thanks guys for all the complements

Great buck, cool rifle, and really cool that you shot it with a bullet you cast yourself.

Very impressive on many levels!
The only game I’ve seen taken with a 45-70 was a <3 yr old bison and he didn’t seem that impressed as it took several to finally tip him over.

Thanks JGray, 28gr of Accurate 5744. Thanks for sharing - I have a repro 1886 but haven't hunted with it yet. The best buck I've shot to date was with a Ballard 45/70 loaded with blackpowder and a 30:1 540 gr bullet I cast myself. Most memorable hunt of my life...

Is that the gas check version? I have that mold they shoot better than lyman's 457193 plain base in my 86 lwt rifle. Mb

Thanks guys, it’s a Montana deer. On a side note, I couldn’t be happier with the cast bullet performance, bang flop and the meat is edible right up to the entrance and exit. I did find the gas check under the hide at the exit. Sounds like it - my RCBS version is also gas checked and shoots better than the Lyman 457193 for me as well. I use it without the GC in BP loads and with the GC in smokeless loads.

Very nice buck, and that’s a heck of an offhand shot!
