What would I expect to pay ,in today's market ,for a Ruger M77 .308. Great condition, red pad ,tang safety ,low rounds . Has a Leopold 3x9 mounted on it . No box but he has the original manual. There's like one ding in the wood ,real clean rifle ,nice wood ,blueing shines nicely .
Thanks in advance for any help,-Vince

In general, maybe $600, but only you can decide what you’re willing to pay. I prefer Hawkeyes, so wouldn’t be interested at all unless it was a screaming flip opportunity. The scope doesn’t add much, if anything IMO.

Thank you Kinda what I thought I went on gunbroker and saw one in less condition with Bushnell scope starting bid at 899 . So that's what threw me a little

In today's market *online* (read: people are nuts right now) I think you'd be looking closer to $750/800 but, in a gun shop, I think you could get a better deal. Age/condition of the scope might also influence.

Anecdotal evidence: a gun store recently sold me a Rem 700 in 35 Whelen for $650 and then an online dealer gave nearly 2x that in trade credit.

Thanks Recently was in a gun shop and the fella told me they put the s&w revolvers on line only ( consigned and or used) because they sell better, faster ,fetching higher money So I'd have to agree with you

I’d suffer an RAR rather than pay $900 for an old 77, then put good glass on it.

That sounds about right, re: the SW revolvers. It's hard to pinpoint why the pricing on certain guns is still bonkers. Revolvers, Glocks, ARs, etc., is all still fallout from the riots and fears of possible bans, etc. But the prices on certain bolt guns don't really have anything to do with that (i.e., you probably aren't fending off a mob with your walnut 308)... so my hunch is that the 3 million or whatever it was new/first-time gun buyers have just flooded the market with folks who don't know what things are worth and they're grabbing up anything and everything? Once deer season ends, the same used rifles *in stores* won't be worth nearly as much. If you can hold out until then, you might get an even better deal.

$550-$650.

$550 would get me to "buy it now" $650 would get me to ask if they'll take $550.

Government money drives prices of everything higher. Internet has increased prices, too. People see high prices from bidding wars and want that for theirs.

I'm seeing tang Ruger rigs like that going for six to eight locally. Nice guns but not $800 used quality. Six seems high to me, but that's me.

If the scope is a vari x ii, the combo should be well north of $600. The scope alone would be around $200. $800 out the door would still be reasonable. I’d buy it in a minute at $700. If it has iron sights it would bring a little more.

This is what I think . I'd give $100 more for an RS than I would for one with just rings .

I'd look at the bore very carefully before throwing out an offer. Some had major issues. Has a "Leupold" scope. That's pretty vague, as that will add value, but how much?? It depends on which model of 3-9x40... They are not all created equal and some are more popular than others. Sounds like a nice rifle though. Probably $450-$500.00 in todays market. Not going to quote a price with the Leupold because of what I explained above. Pappy pretty much hits the nail on the head, as well...
