I have some Federal 205 Small Rifle Primers and some H-335 Powder. Will these standard primers work OK with this combination? The reloading data that I can scrape up seems to call for magnum primers for this powder. Thanks for any help.

It will light them of course but I was surprised at what a difference a primer can make in my AR. Switched from R7.5 to CCI-41 on a load with cfe223 and groups went from over 2.5 MOA to 1 MOA.

OP, you don't need mag primers with H335 as far as ignition goes, but you might want to try them to see of they perform better in your gun than standard primers.

I use mostly CCI 41's when I can get then or CCI-BR4's as they have harder cups, but I've had no problems with any powders with Fed 205's, CCI-400's, CCI-450's, Win SRP's, Rem & 1/2's or Fed AR's

You'll be just fine with those 205 primers. You didn't say if you are going to use them in an AR or bolt gun. Not that it matters much, as the 205 has a "mil spec" cup thickness according to Federal. That being .0225", is more than the main primer I use (CCI400) in a lot of my AR loads. I've never had an issue at all with that primer. In an AR, you need to concern yourself with the cup thickness, as there have been some instances where a slam fire has occurred with thin cup primers. The important thing to keep an eye on is seating your primer below the surface of the case head. .004" is minimum, more is better. Do not allow primers to be seated flush with the surface of the case head and you will be just fine. As far as setting off a case full of H335, you'll be just fine. Like I said in another thread, I've loaded a bunch with the CCI400, which is not a magnum primer. If I only had 205's, I'd run them without hesitation.

If it's going to be a concern, just use a titanium firing pin. It leaves a much smaller dent in an unfired primer.

Midway had the 41s very recently. Someone here posted a tip, in the Classifieds IIRC. One brick per customer, about $80. They might get them again, so keep your eye out.

I use standard primers with h 335, never had an issue. Personally I think mag primers work better if you are going shoot in cold weather.

I haven’t used H335 in decades but when I did I used standard primers, and didn’t have an issue but these were shot in the heat of summer.
Now I see magnum primers recommended for double based ball powder.

I read someplace that the 41s have a greater gap between the anvil and the cup. Gonna use them in my Ranch rifle as I suspect the floating firing pin has some whoopsie potential.
