I was in 3rd grade. And my biggest memory of 3rd grade was:

Growing up in a mining town and the mine was damn near in town, and every day at 4:30? between shift changes a whistle blew and they blasted and it shook the whole town. Well I had to have my appendix removed and the company hospital was right at the edge of the mine. My older brothers told me "I hope they don't blast when the Dr has his knife in you or he will slip and cut your dick off" I was scared [bleep]. But woke up and still had my dick, so I'm happy even to this day for that.

Going with the post's title and not the video...parents were scared shoeless of their kid contracting polio. The Iron Curtain was still strong and the demonstration of that in the streets of Budapest was still to come. Dien Bien Phu taught Americans where French Indo-China was. Oh, yeah, lots of great things back then.
