I'd probably go with my Montana 7-08.

(Can't get the images to work on this stupid phone tonight )

700 SPS SS in 7mm-08 in a McMillan mtn rifle stock with a Zeiss conquest 3-9x40. It shoots 120 gr ttsx’s into small groups and 120 gr BTs into even smaller groups. Both at 3150fps with Big Game powder. It also likes 150 gr partitions for the bigger stuff.

In reality I have 10-20 that could be my onlys. Just depends on the day and moon phase.

Make mine a Tikka T3 stainless synthetic in 6.5 swede topped by a Redfield 3-9x40 with some Barnes 130 TSX bullets. Kills like the plague.

Remington 5R 300WM, cover both close range encounter and long range shots out west. Not a feather weight, but good balance of weight to get stability and accuracy.

Same boring answer as the last two or three times this topic has come up. LH Rem KS, .270 Win, Rimrock stock, Leupold 2.5x8 #4 on top, Nosler Trophy Grade 130gr AB’s @ 3085 fps.

What I've got-----Remington 700 LH 30/06 with a Burris Fullfield II 3x9 ballistic plex. Mine likes 180 grain bullets so I feed it 180 grain hornady interlocks spire points #3070. I can't find them now but I did find 200 180 grain boat tails. #3072

It's hard to leave them at home when "it's time to kill something".

It damn sure is FB, you know that one certain rifle you don't even have to check zero on but do anyway? yep, this is mine, walnut stock, full bed and all, it never moves ; ] 175's leave at 2700 fps and will bug hole the top out of the Redfield diamond 3 inches high.

I would likely use of my 223's, but it is not like I really have to work that hard at deer hunting.

223 Rem, my favorite cartridge - you can't argue with truckloads of dead PD's and gophers.

I’m kind of boring. Mine would be a Model 70 in 30-06. Fortunately, I don’t have to have just 1. I have 3 30-06’s.

Remington 700 in 280ai. Has Mdl 70 safety conversion and magpul bottom metal. Can't think of anything I couldn't do with it.

I have not hunted deer in over 30 years. But, The “only one” scenario, gives me withdrawal symptoms.
I did put together “my near ideal” deer rifle, just in case I ever hunt them again.
M70 stainless, 7mm WSM, New Haven manufacture, McMillan dark McWoody supergrade stock, 2.5-10x42 Zeiss Victory with #4 reticle. Current bullet of choice, 150 grain TTSX.
I think this would cover me to as far or close as distance that I would shoot. And any angle intended or unintended.

Many rifles, cartridges, and bullets would perform as well or better. Hell, I would still be hard pressed not to use my Kimber Montana 325 WSM with 200 TSX, which would still cover my requirements.

I could get it down to two, wouldn’t want too, but could use these two. Both Ruger’s, both ‘70’s.
#1 in 7x57 and 77 round top in .30-06. Not to much you could not hunt with these. I know, crappie Leupold scopes, sorry. 😁

Rem 760 carbine 30-06. Definitely not a long ranger but quite handy for the northeast woods.

By actual count, I have more rifles in .308 than any other CF chambering. And they can make up into a versatile field rifle.

But if truly limited to one choice it would be in a .24, .25, or .26 caliber rifle

I'm most fond of, and have the most history with my model 70 classic featherweight in .243. Next up for those parameters would be my custom barreled classic FWT in 25-06. And both of these I've described as sparklingly accurate.

But I've also got a stainless synthetic MRC Campfire .260 w 1 in 8" barrel. It's never been quite as accurate as either of my classic fwts, but I shoot as well with it from field positions.

I'm good with any of this trio...

If I were to experiment with new rifles I'd look to a Fieldcraft or a Nula
